LOL! No worries man, price to be paid for fast and easy communication.

If it's any consolation, I also have trouble detecting sarcasm through text. Hell, ask DigMe, I totally misgauged a response recently and thought I'd accidentally pissed 'em off! They were cool with it though, which went a long way towards setting me at ease. Bilingual problems, I suppose?

*Use of gender neutral because I can't for the life of me remember if they were a dude, dudine (proper feminine form of dude, which is weird I know), or nonbinary. Excessive political correctness partially in jest cuz I know y'all don't give a crap about that

Yep. I deny deification. Heck, I'm an atheist! :D

I just see a bunch of guys with good ears backed up by good technical knowledge. They are not afraid of their ears, and they are not afraid of science. In fact, many of them actually know how stuff works. This is so different to the pseudo-science make-it-up-as-they-go-along bullshit that I have run away from on other sites.

BTW, @Marvey, in case of misunderstanding, that thing about washing it off was not aimed at you. It was just one of those things to put out there, and happened to be triggered by something you said.

I should add "actually know how majik items like DACs and amps work v. just caring about how their favourite headphones sound out of them" to my earlier post if I haven't already, that's a really good point. But hey, I thought these people were too subjective to actually be scientists? :))

Oh no worries! That's one of the rare instances my nuance radar actually worked properly, haha. I'm actually glad my earlier statement proved a useful tool for illustration.

... Even if we're finger painting using feces.

Woops. Should have @-ed @Marvey there! But anyway, it was aimed at the world, not any individual :)

@Marvey, an apology from me is in order. I've spent equal [or maybe disproportionate] time here contributing and aggravating you and other members. So I apologize for the aggravation, as far as the book goes, I may get around to it. Sadly I've got a lot on my plate already.

An interesting note however, when in person, I don't feel the need to be right, it creates unnecessary tension and sometimes works against you. I can prove my point, assuming my point is valid through other more subtle means. Online that's not the case, we only have one point of contact or influence, I guess I care about about this place and this community to more aggressively speak my mind, and often wind up with my foot in my mouth. If this were a room with living beings I'd behave a little differently.

Veering way off, online communications are something I struggle with because I don't have all of the points of contact I'm used to having. Most of the time, I don't care enough to say anything... so I dig that I have a chance here to hash out a more effective method of online interaction. I also hate texting for the same reasons -.-

But alas, online text based communications are and will continue to be a necessary evil and a powerful tool. That I as a caveman may continue to struggle with lol

I don't know if you will ever be in a position to do so, but just show up to an event were you can meet up with one of us in NY, SF, LA, or at RMAF. There is very much a real community here and sets of smaller local or specific interest groups. I am not of part of them all, but most of the good stuff happens behind the scenes. The Internet presence of SBAF is just a facade.

And no, you can't have my phone number so you can text me about audio and life. That is only given to level 85 disciples.

You'd be surprised. I had no one at Head-fi OR reddit attack me after I pissed off Jude (the Head-fi one, not the chill JDS Labs one) so much that he had to login into reddit to piss arguments at me in novel form.

Actually, a funny side note, he's only logged into his account twice in the entire five years he owned the account. And both times were to argue with me...a year apart. On a Hifiman HE-1000 thread and then the Jeff-gets-fired-by-Fang thing a year later. Nothing happened. Didn't even get banned from head-fi.

I only bring this up because that description perfectly describes Jude, who is known to actually do shit to product his reputation.

Funny how that happens sometimes when composing speeches using a dictionary or translator. I've been an avid reader with a broad vocabulary all my life. I'm also into word games that require broad knowledge but I must admit I wasn't familiar with this word.

Once I was asked to do a survey at a museum in Seoul and I had to really rack my brain to recall what "docent" means. Maybe that's a lapse in my vocabulary but it's certainly not a word that most people would use in the US in place of "tour guide" or something.

Dotard, along, come to think of it, with dotage, is a word I used to know. Docent is completely new to me. Sounds like one of those made up names for a consultancy company,

I'm familiar with the word "docent", means professor.
In spanish, "docente" means "docent" (or teacher/professor), the word is widely used in Uruguay and Argentina, not so much in Spain.

Well at this moment, Travel isn't as accessible to me as it could/should be. Most of my involvement is online for now! This is the first year I've actually been able to travel within 300-400miles. I actually had a Mini Meet with another HF member in NC, right before attending my first meet. NY or the West Coast are on my list, but it'll be at least a year before I can make it out that way! Busy7 days a week atm, between Classes and work, so time is very short.

I've actually got some PTO in November, so if you guys are down for planning an East Coast meet in a month I'd be able to make that! An score that sweet 1,000,000 XP bounty!

Soon hopefully, and I don't want your number lol. I have enough people to call/text as it is!

It has a second definition of "tour guide" often a volunteer tour guide at a museum. This was the usage that I encountered in the survey I mentioned.
