Patreon... very cool. Now I don't have to remember to make what was supposed to be a regular donation.

How will you ever find more good contributors if the gates are locked? The odds maybe 100:1 or 10,000:1... who knows, but you will never know unless you meet them.

"HOBBY" is the key word, not financial tycoon. If them asking for advice bothers you, ignore.

Isn't that the essence of giving? I wouldn't expect anything back. Besides generosity and goodwill go a long way. Been at this for 10 years.

As for the war funding, I've taken upon myself to fight Sauron and the one measurement to rule them all.

Very cool idea. It’s been too long since my last donation.

Just signed up. This place deserves it.

Re the whole advice thing: Anyone who takes advice from SBAF is going to pay plenty. This hobby may not be as expensive as say, watch collecting, but it ain’t cheap. In any case, I think it’s great there’s a place where some real experts share their knowledge to anyone smart enough to to listen. Sure, getting banned Here is easy in some ways, but I appreciate the effort to apply some noise filters. I was a long time participant on H-F. The culture here is quite different, but mostly I like it. As long as you make at least some effort to follow basic behavior and posting standards, you can say what you really think.

I’d put it it this way: here you learn what you really like and how to get your system there.

Question: how does the patreon membership link to SBAF membership? In other words, how does SBAF know who is a contributor?

Crap. IIRC I signed in to patreon with my google account and SBAF with an old Yahoo email address.

Happy to have joined, I read SBAF every day. I'll jump up a tier if I ever get my income up to regular adult level.

I don't post here a lot but this place has been really helpful to me so I donated $25 via Paypal and signed up through Patreon.

Odd (or is it?) that Patreon charges local sales tax (called "gross receipts tax" here in New Mexico) for a service/donation such as this. Wondering out loud @purr1n if you set the organization up as a "club" or some such on your end in Patreon if they would forgo collecting/paying local sales tax.

Yeah purr1n if you are getting hosed by Patreon fees and whatever else I can switch my membership over to a monthly PayPal payment. Or if you think Patreon is still more ideal then I'll leave it as is.

I 'm glad the Patreon works out, I've been remiss on contributing and I do a couple of patronships. It helps my state of mind today also, HF pissed me off for the last time and it's made me realize all the good that SBAF has done for my system.

Unfortunately I haven't donated funds in a while so maybe I shouldn't say anything but I think the small fees on Patreon and posting in this thread are worth it in a monkey see, monkey do way - the more people donate, more other people feel inclined to donate as well.
