what case do you use for your pi and touchscreen? I use a SmartiPi for my standalone setup at work but wasn’t sure if there were better options out there.

SmartiPi. It's not as neat as I'd like, but it works.

I cannot get moode to boot with ext hdd plugged in. I haven’t figured out why yet. The drive has no boot table.

If you want a very nice case using the Pi Touchscreen - look at the RaspTouch case - https://www.audiophonics.fr/fr/boit...48.html?search_query=Rasptouch&fast_search=fs. I have one for my main system. Use the SmartPI case for my other systems.

That is surprising, but this moOde forum thread might help.

Thanks, I didn't realize they sold that box separately from their pre-assembled systems. Some questions: 1) does it have enough space for the Pi2AES, which is taller than some other Pi shields; 2) how does the screen draw power from the Pi (in my current setup, I use a separate 5V SMPS for the screen; 3) I don't quite see how the Pi2AES ports would match the holes in the case.

sounds like I should look at making a case to hold a PI with our PI2AES and the touchscreen? I did modify our case to allow the tail for the screen to come out. Hope that helps.

I'd get it if you make it, for sure, but I don't know how big that market would be ;) You said you modified the case to allow for the screen cable. Looking at the case I got a while ago for non-screen Pi2AES, I see nothing like that, so I assume that's the more recent case version, right?

Maybe just an addon top or side that can mount the screen - no need to have 2 completely different versions.

The Pi 4 won't boot with an external powered USB hub attached. You can plug it in after it boots. It has something to do with the powered hub providing power to the pi and it doesn't handle that correctly. The raspberry pi people released an updated, rev 1.2 board, that corrects some power stuff.

If you are using a hub, try plugging your drive directly into the pi usb instead, i would expect that to be fine.

I initially thought that would be pretty awesome, but then I realized nobody else except me listens to my headphone station and I use my phone for pretty much everything. If I had a speaker system, I’d consider it for my less technically capable family members, but for just me a phone interface is probably best.

Different use cases. My work touchscreen Pi2AES is totally disconnected (wired or WiFi) because I don't want to go through the complications of trying to have a personal gadget on a highly secure corporate network.

Actually have been kicking this idea around for a while. I do need to think more on it but you might be right that a simple set of mounting holes on a top plate could do the trick

Someone asked me about how to use the Pi as a network drive which your drive connected to the Pi. Easy.

Samba is turned on by default in moOde and in some other

Go to Windows and open File Explorer. In the address bar, enter \\IPaddressofyourpi and you are there. ie \\10.0.0216 is mine. You will then see the name of your drive, double click and boom. Then you can add it as a Network drive or whatever.

Just be warned, transfer speeds are not that fast. I really only use it to keep my music library updated. You just need to make sure to update that folder to be added to the MPD library.

It's mostly for my bedroom system - I got used to having a physical play/pause button when I was using a node 2 and now it feels like a pain having to have to unlock the phone and open roon every time I leave or come back #1stworldproblems.

The RaspTouch case has about 1-7/8 inch internal clearance. That is sufficient for a Pi board and a double stack HAT (Digione Signature currently installed).

The power supply for the screen is normally from the PI board as the case provides an on/off switch. The back plate does come with an opening for an additional power input. As an example, a separate power jack was installed for the DIginone Signature HAT in my current use.

You would have to modify the back plate to provide the openings for the Pi2AES ports, if it will fit.

I'm a bit confused but I just read some of the pages, so sorry if this was already asked.

1- If I understand correctly there is no way to use this to stream Spotify/tidal directly from the pi instead of the phone, and use Spotify app as controller on the phone ?

2- It's possible to just choose any player like foobar, install it on the pi and manage the library/play with the corresponding app?

    thanks

@RedLipstick you'd have to install a full gui-enabled Linux distribution, then install the music player on that, and control it with screen + kb + mouse, or remote into it from another computer.

It might be possible to remote into it from a phone but it would be an awful user experience.

Spotify doesn't allow you to control what a full instance of Spotify is doing from another one, only to play to an endpoint - you can't control your pc's Spotify player with your phone's either.

You might be able to install both the endpoint software and a Spotify Player - assuming the player even runs on arm - but that seems needlessly complicated.

I mean, Spotify is compressed anyway, so it's only for casual listening, so what's the problem with it stopping if you leave your WiFi zone?

As to foobar, it again would need to be something that can run on Linux arm64, and you'd need a full gui Linux install, screen kb and mouse (because of poor/no touch support in desktop apps) or remote access, and would does that give you over volumio/moode/etc which do the same thing without trying to shoehorn a desktop music player into an rpi?

The only thing you gain - with a lot of downsides - is being able to change tracks by getting up and walking over to your hifi, which most (all?) of the rpi music player distributions already do with just a pi touchscreen.
