Lots to digest here!!
Edit: yeah, this is top 10 of 2020 shit right here.
An old favourite.
I'm always debating whether vaporwave tracks like this, which are only lightly edited slowed-down samples taken from existing recordings, qualify as 'electronic'. I would argue yes, since digital manipulation is a heavily contributing factor to the aesthetic despite the non-synthesized nature of many or most of the sounds. Regardless, there's still the performative aspect embedded within the original samples, which gives this organic engagement factor unlike some purely synthesized music.
Regardless, I love the texture and grunt of the compression used here, how the arrangement opens up when slowed down, both factors particularly noticeable in the low end. Lovely atypical harmonic flow here too.
It's interesting to think about how I'm only first hearing these performances now, edited and remixed to oblivion, when my parents may very well have listened to the originals several decades ago. I know nothing about where these performances or recordings are from. No context aside from this present experience. Hauntology and all that.
Just finished watching Jean-Michel Jarre's live virtual new years performance, it was pretty cool, I imagine even cooler with vr goggles.
Some Daft Punk vibes here. Album Kloud - Autonomy
