That is a weird way to describe sound. Maybe? Treble is certainly quite different. There is no more weird low quality MP3 sound to it like parts of the treble is missing.

Downside is that the perforated pads sound way darker than the stock pads.

Update: Suede pads seem more interesting than the MrSpeakers measurements made them look like. Slightly darker sounding than standard, but just barely. Sub-bass a bit stronger. Delta between 10 and 16 kHz well reduced. Seems to have most of the advantages of the perforated pads in treble while having way less of the downsides.

Your description of the suede pads is on target but you have the perforated pad signature backwards. They have more treble.

They have more treble at comparable loudness, but lower mids and bass go up even more for a much darker sound.

With a recent very satisfying addition of African Blackwood Auteur in my collection, I was nearly about to sell my Ether 2. But whenever I tried to hear it seriously to make a final verdict, the answer has always been "no". DSHA-3F is just giving me hard time in disabling to purge my pair. This combo sounds almost ideal "in its own way". Damn, it's not as easy as what I've already sold. Weight and ergonomics not even considered.

I may consider selling it again when verite gets to my place. With black widow, thought that ether 2 could be replaced. With the current amp, no more sure. Amp didn't change its fundamental sonic character (it's still ether 2). However, this small half-metal half-wooden box perfected this headphone in ways how it should and want to sound. Maybe my taste is quite different from Dan -- because their amp recommendations mostly didn't work for me (none of those were particularly bad though).

By the way, while I like flexibility and looks of vivo cable -- I also love stock cable was already this good -- but it clearly has a micro-phonic issue. I didn't bother much but it's pretty evident when compared to zmf atmos-c cable.

    EDIT: Abbreviations taken out.

Interesting...I find that the VIVO cable has no problem with microphonics (unlike their old "DUMMER" cable).

Yeah it's clearly better than the previous gen (or lesser) cable. But still without music playing, I could mildly identify external stimulus (slight touch).

It may not completely be a cable issue. Ether 2 is by nature coupled with head/face/cheek quite tightly. This, combined with very low overall weight, may result in more surviving mechanical vibration. What I compared it with was kinda the opposite: much heavier mass, relatively loose mechanical coupling with head, and more absorbing pads.

Just finished "upgrading" to the suede pads. Gosh, I adore them so far. Little comfier. Subtly darker. Minor yet appreciated sibilance reduction.

African Black Wood Auteur. To be fair ZABA looks less disco and more 2000s scene kid.

I swear to God I thought your last post was tongue in cheek :))

Haha abbreviation always introduces creative interpretations.

Here's my little secret: when I first saw the term SJR (Marv first used it as I recall), the immediate thing that came to my brain was "Social Justice .. what????" It's sufficient to horrify a person like me who doesn't regard sj'w' friendly :p

When we put abbreviations on everything, my brain has to do gymnastics translating what they mean. A few here and there is fine, but when they are overused I'd rather just stop reading.
