Oh gawd. We don't have any rules against linking to HF; but seriously that thread with Snoopy acting like an ass already gives me a headache.

Wasn't a huge part of the X00 sound as opposed to the 600/900 in the pads? Are they going to be the same on these? I really can't tell from that little photo. The stained cups look nice as opposed to the polished ones though.

EDIT: Looks like that thread just got cleaned up. Curraweeb to the rescue?

Part of it was the pads. The other part was the thick foam ring. It was my understanding that the driver was tweaked but still largely similar to the TH600.

LOL. I was going to say that it was about time for Currawong to get our of bed by now in Japan.

It's just weird, even now, that critique of gear gets those kind of responses. People seem to take things so personally.

Fingers crossed then. However that $600 pricetag is probably accurate because I have a feeling (and it would make sense given it is called the 610) the detachable-cable-premium will be calculated based on the TH600 price and not the X00.

Shit happens in a collective hugbox. It's akin to raising your kids with little to no independence and holding their hands all their lives. Letting go or introducing them to anything outside their comfort zone is going to be a big, big problem.

Yeah, one thing I appreciated was the magnesium cups, probably was actually more expensive than wood. So if your fostex its a win win, cheaper and wood is FOTM.

The detachable cables are a nice touch, maybe these will even be easily purchased by us EU-folk (unlike the TH-X00's). But, they still look a lot like the old (& nice) Denon Dx000-series - I bet Fostex gets better money from these than the Denons.

My D2000's still work just fine as a "bass-'phone", so maybe I'll wait for something else :)

I have a feeling these will be more expensive and more similar to TH-600, than TH-X00...

Slightly back on topic (sorry!) but removable cables may be a plus (for those of us who aren't hardwiring maniacs).

I have this headphone... I think it's great, I like it very much. Certainly better than TH900. Compared to it, TH-610 has a smoother and more balanced sound with slightly U shaped sound signature.

I've been trying to find a good comparison between these and th-x00. Like: given these are more readily available, looks good too (certainly doesn't look worse) AND detached cables...WHY would I sign up for/get the TH-x00's? (Clearly people are still getting th-x00 since yet another drop popped up for the mahogany, that's the second time in 6 months).

The biggest reason for me would be the $200 premium for the TH610 over the X00. Looking at the measurements from innerfidelity.com (using them because they have measured both) the X00's seem to measure slightly better overall in terms of an even FR although they are very similar.

    TH-X00 - http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/FostexTHX00sn1927.pdf
    TH610 - http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/FostexTH610.pdf

So it would come down to paying that premium for what is essentially a detachable cable. If that's worth a couple hundred dollars to you then go for it.

To add to this, you can mod the th-x00 to have detachable cables without any permanent modifications. Only downside is you'll have to use the old hifiman connector.

Has anyone ever tried velour/microfibre pads on any of those models ? I know the pleather/real leather w/e is important for isolation, but it's a pita in summer when you're not a fan of A/C; just wondering whether the accuracy of the bass is affected.

    Edit: grammar

I'm not sure how much people would be interested in the th610 specifically, but I think one of the common models (th610, thx00, emu-teak) could be good so more people could get ears on the Fostex bio-dyna goodness.

Edit: I forgot, the Denon D7200 is a thing now too. Supposedly a true successor to the D7000. Using a similar Foster OEM as the models above.
