FS: Clearing out sale (Ugly Bottlehead SEX, ICEPower50ASX2, will update)

I’m planning on moving in a month or two so I’m starting the clean out process. I haven’t been active much here lately (haven’t had much constructive to add) but I’ve gotten some great deals here so I’ll return the favor!

First up is a Bottlehead SEX 2.1 C4S. It’s not in great condition. The guy who shipped it to me put it in a single box with a bunch of packing peanuts so the chassis came undone. The previous owner also seemed to not finish the transformer and choke housings so they’re pretty ugly. I think they can almost pass as “steampunk” or “garage rig” worthy. There’s also a hum. It comes with two RCA 6DN7’s but now that I’m looking at them again, they don’t match. Since this is in...not good cosmetic shape, how does $300 shipped CONUS for Friends/Contributors sound? Randos can pay for shipping but Friends/Contributors get first pick. In either case, I’ll both double box this and pay for shipping insurance.

I also have an ICEPower 50ASX2 in a Ghentaudio chassis. This one is in good condition. I can’t seem to find any nicks or scratches, these just served as the woofer amp for my LXMinis. SOLD, was $140 shipped CONUS for Friends/Contributors, randos pay shipping.

Next is a Furutech GT2 .6m USB Type B to Type A like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Used-GT2-FURUTECH-0-6-USB-B-A-B-TYPE-audio-USB-cable-from-Japan/293672632453 if anyone is interested, I’ll sell for, I don’t know, $60? I know nothing about it but it came with the DAC I bought but the cheapest I’ve seen one go for in my quick search is $65 so I’ll undercut that.

Finally I have a pair of Torac Audio drivers in a Hifiman HE400i frame with Cascadia Audio Impact pads. The drivers listed have single sided magnets but I paid extra for double sided magnets. I don’t think they sound particularly great in this configuration but I’m sure people here with more resources and modding experience than me can figure something out. Selling for much cheaper here because I’d love to see what people do with this. $150 shipped CONUS for Friends/Contributors, everyone else adds shipping. I do have the original fancy HE400i box for shipping if requested for whatever the price difference for shipping will be.

The transformer bell on that SEX would probably clean up nicely with a little elbow grease and a new paint or clear coat on top(they're bare steel, and Bottlehead warns that they can rust if unfinished). Pictures of the wiring underneath might help as well. I really like my SEX amp, good luck with the sale!

I do have sandpaper and clear coat so if anyone wants me to do that for them, I can do that.

I had some time to kill this morning and found some spray paint, sandpaper, and wood stain so I prettied the SEX up a bit: https://imgur.com/a/VNKvi4a

It was kind of fun and didn’t require any real work so I’m keeping the price the way it is. Tonight I’ll poke around to try to kill the hum. The chokes will probably stay as they are since they require some soldering to remove but they are sanded down nicely and I’ll hit them with a coat of clear coat when I get some masking tape later today.

 

Final status update:

1. I did some joint touch ups and tightening of screws and the hum is 99% gone for my HD600 and HD800. There’s some quiet hum with the much lower impedance (32ohm) Borealis but I had to close my window to hear it.
