FS: Eddie Current Super 7 #12 modded

Up for sale is my well-loved and modified EC S7 Mk2 with the double C-core transformers.

This S7 is in excellent cosmetic shape, no major patina issues, except on the sides it looks two-tone (see pics).

Net to me $890. Buyer covers PP fees, shipping fully insured carrier of your choice.

This is exactly what I paid prior to modifications.

I upgraded the feedback and interstage capacitors to Audyn true copper for 0.1uf, and CDE motor run oil caps for 10uf. I also upgraded the volume pot to the eBay DACT-type stepped attenuator. The headphone-speaker switch also needed replacing.

If you look in the S7 thread I put up a bunch of pictures there. I performed the mods as outlined in the thread. I am not a super experienced DIYer by any stretch.

When I swapped the initial set of CDE motor-run caps for the ones that Hands recommended I needed to desolder the connections through the PCB because the leads were not long enough. The holes on the PCB are really small and on one side I had difficulty getting the connection desoldered and applied too much heat and about 5mm of trace lifted off of the PCB. I soldered the new lead through the hole and onto the trace directly. It works well but is a mark of my being a DIY novice. In the pictures you will see that I covered this area with electrical tape (follow the green wires going to the big metal capacitor).

In addition, the red power LED works but I couldn’t get it loose from the metal cover and it ended up breaking and leaving part in the cover (see the picture).

I realized after I got the S7 that the right and left RCA inputs are mislabeled (or wired backwards).

I have the original box and packing materials.

I am including the stock tubes with the sale price.

I also have a small assortment of 6SN7’s for sale. Hands was kind enough to let me borrow a whole mess of tubes and I listened and picked the ones I liked he best. I have a Westinghouse GTB pair, Sylvania short bottle GTA pair and the RCA GTB pair that he sold to me for $40 total, so that is what I will sell for.

I have another RCA GTA pair and Sylvania short bottle GTB pair that I would like $30 for.

The best tube I found for the driver was Ken-Rad Jan CKR 6SN7 VT231 black glass that I paid $85, that I will sell for $40.

Please note: I am selling this amplifier “as is”, meaning I am not warranting DIY work. The connections are all secure. I transported this S7 to a meet and had no issues with it at all. However, stuff happens and the buyer should have some basic soldering skills or know someone who does.

Also, Lyr 3 owners must note this deal because that black glass vt231 was the best tube among I tried to lyr 3. Likely it may be sold with the amp soon though.

With the modifications S7 sounds tonally very similar to my BW2. The S7 has a better soundstage but the BW2 has more clarity and slam. For me this S7 was a big upgrade over Lyr 3 and Torpedo 3. The only reason I’m selling is because I’m getting an Af.
