I had bought this DAC for parts few years ago but moved in with my (now) wife and never had the time (nor the space) to set up my EE work bench to properly fix it.

The DAC turns on, but the warming up LED just keeps blinking and it never fully starts up.
I (think I) identified the issue: one of the electrolytic cap in the power supply was dead (top metal plate measured > 180V, when it should be GND...), so I proceeded to remove all the caps in the PSU but never went around to ordering the replacement caps and fully recapping it. The aforementioned cap had indeed leaked, which confirms my suspicions.

If you buy this DAC, you understand that some work is needed (either by you, or go directly with partconneXion - which do offer upgrade services for old Sonic Frontier gear) and, at the very least a full recap of the PSU will be required.
I kept the original caps, for reference.

The unit is in pretty good cosmetic condition, but I seem to have misplaced the screws for the top cover.

I'll let it go for $400 + shipping.

    Sold!

This is a ridiculous deal on an excellent DAC (my second favorite after the Wavedream). I paid over $2k for mine, it had been upgraded by partsConneXion and is/was working perfectly. Even if you factor in fixing and upgrading, you'll still probably end up less than $2,000 total, much less if you know how to fix it yourself. ;)

Someone buy this so I don't end up with a second one!

Clemmaster is great to deal with, I purchased my Ambre from him and both the process and the Ambre has been great (and was also a really good deal).

Also you can purchase a set of screws for these from partsConneXion so don't let that worry you.

Given the strong interest, I decided to increase the price to $1600!

Nah, just kidding :p - I'm really just passing the great deal along. I've been sleeping on this for 5 years and it's about time someone put this great DAC to good use!
