Pikes Peak is a 14,000' mountain in Colorado. There has been a hillclimb there for just over 100 years. Road to the top was originally all dirt, then paved part way up, now totally paved. Used to be a relatively niche event, a lot of years the winning vehicle was a either a modified sprint car (dirt track racing) or off-road racer. At some point manufacturers started to throw money at builders to use their car as a base, now there are full-on factory efforts like this VW. Apparently they came into this year wanting to set a record for an all-electric vehicle and ended up setting the outright record. A one-off vehicle built to the rules for this race, with just enough battery for the distance (12.5 miles/8 minutes) and optimized for the thin air of the higher atmosphere, thus the gigantic wings.

Ah awesome! A car built to handle this one event, that's a really cool story! Big thanks!

Out to dinner with my partner and our employees for his birthday.

    Edited for clarity:

These cars are parked in the valet parking lot, only valets park the cars. My intention was not to show terrible parking, that me and my crew took over the parking lot, but just to show some really nice cars. Particularly the Aston Martin.

I'm editing my original post because I don't want to start shit here. It was more of a misunderstanding, that being said, I don't approve of parking like that, but keying people's cars is excessive.

They are parked terribly, but that is no reason for anything more than a strongly worded note under the windshield wiper.

It's valet. If that was the reason behind keying the cars, it's completely excessive obviously, like you hinted at. Again, it's valet only, the valets park the cars in that lot and only the valet. I sure as hell wasn't bragging that me and my people parked like assholes and took up all the good spots. Lol. I just snapped a picture of some very nice cars. I thought he was saying it out of hate, I didn't realize why he said what he said. I wouldn't have said what I said.

I was expecting some reason like that. I'm guessing the valet drivers don't want to be held responsible for scratches or dents on cars that nice/expensive so they leave a little extra room.

I won't do valet with my car and it's not even a super expensive car but it is in great condition and it's my baby. I've never been somewhere that was valet only, not sure what I'd do in that situation...

Not the entire restaurant, just that part of the lot. They literally just park the cars. It's right in front of the restaurant. I don't valet either, just at this restaurant.

Thanks for explaining the parking. Every single car is parked out of line, but they are still taking up the 'right' number of parking spots. The incongruity was bugging the crap out of me.

My bad. I snapped the picture and didn't finish my post, my phone rang. I wanted to explain they were nice cars in the valet lot, but failed. I totally see how that looked when I originally said:

Out to dinner with my partner and our employees for his birthday.

    Lol
I looked like a complete douche. Plus I forgot about that post until I saw a dislike and the comment. I still stand by my statement that keying these cars would be excessive. All it takes is one person to park out of the line, in a busy lot, people will park next to said person, and everyone will be parked fucked up. You go and start keying cars, there are innocent parkers there, for lack of a better term. Lol

Somehow I don't think the "any justice in this world" comment relates only to parking between the lines.

But then I could be reading too much into it also.

If that is a valet lot, then fine. I've never seen a lot like that around here, but kinda in the sticks
Yes, the keying comment was excessive and I have deleted
I see parking like that all the time in normal lots, drives me nuts
For some reason, I am very sensitive to 'me first - eff everyone else' behavior

Regardless of now the valet parked the cars...Astons about about as close to pure sex on 4 wheels as one can get.

In penance for the snarky reply to @Warrior 's post and to get the thread back to Autos - what car do you wish you still had? Me:

Mine was OEW, chrome bullet wing mirrors & steel wheels; couldn't find a decent shot of an OEW Mk2
Laughably fragile, but was my daily driver for close to 2 years in the late 90's. IMO, one of the prettiest cars ever.
Always brought a smile when I pulled open the garage door, then apprehension when I turned the key in the ignition
Someone hit me on the right front, and the insurance company totaled it. I had no place to let it sit, so I took the cash.

Edit: I just looked again at the auction website where I found the photo - this one sold for £13,500 or $17,500
I think I paid £2,200 and the insurance payout was £1,500. Now I really regret it

Nice car. My favorite car was my first M6. I absolutely loved that car. It's. Not a classic car obviously but that car made me smile every single time I drove it. It was an 07, and it was by far the best sounding car I've ever owned. None of my other cars have come close to that one.

Some days I miss my first car, a 1970 Mustang. It was a money pit for a high school student when I owned it. Bought for 2,200; Sold for 4,500.

But the car I miss the most was my 1990 Volkswagen Corrado. 90 was the first year it was made. Only made for 4 and only imported for 3, if I recall right. I loved the super charged G60 engine. It was the last manual trans I owned. So much fun tinkering with engine modifications on those older VW’s.

When I was younger, I was a little wild and at times crazy. I bought a car, with a "friend", when I was 15. L can't get a permit in NY until you're 16. Anyway, me being the genius that I was, stole a $1000 from my father and bought a 78 Camaro. Had the car an entire weekend before I got caught by the police, by doing some dumb shit. I'm too embarrassed to say what I did, it's that bad. At that point of my life, it was the best weekend I ever had...until the police drove me home to my parents. Boy did my dad whoop my ass. Lol. Of course my friend was with me, his parents were called. He was very nice to divert the attention from himself and on to me. Of course my father asked how fast I was driving...he asks do you go 50? 60? I answered, yes, about that speed, until my big mouth friend says, no a little faster, and my father kept asking in 10 mph increments, where I kept answering yes, about that speed, and my friend kept repeating, no a little faster. That didn't stop until we hit 90. Beating started again. Turned out to be the worst Sunday night of my life. I did love that car though.

A friend of my son is very slowly restoring one of those, they're cool.
My very first car was a '67 Mustang, bought in '78. Ridiculously bad car, wouldn't steer or stop for shit. If it wasn't for the emergency brake cable, the passenger seat would have dropped out through the floor pan. Bought for $600, sold for $525

Went to roadkill night's yesterday. Didn't take many pictures but I'll post up a few:

Stubby Bob from the back, such a badass wheelie machine.

I got super excited when I saw this, a 2019 300 SRT8. We ran the VIN and it came up as a prototype and not for resale. They stopped making the 300 SRT in 2015 so I'm pretty stoked.

Also, I got my head's torn off today in about 3 hours. Not too bad. The passenger side valve cover was a complete bastard to get off, but other than that it was pretty simple.
