It would be hilarious to give ASR a brown starfish award. It could be fashioned after the "Community" TV series college flag including the "E Plurbus Anus" caption.

    1. If not already a silver/gold, maybe Yggdrasil for longevity - or does it not count since the Yggdrasil gets constant revisions? Nominated as I've been DAC hunting, have heard several DACs at a similar level in the past year and a half or so, and while all of these others were good in their own way, none were both "better" and "lower / about the same price". Wavelight is the closest I've heard to a cohesive overall package that's a little better overall if we ignore synergy... but it comes in at 2x the cost and is still too new, not enough people have heard it, etc.

    2. Maybe the Stellaris for longevity too... not sure if it qualifies though given that there are probably less than 20 units out there and hence few have heard it. I will say it's better than any other amp I've heard under $20-25k-ish. Cavaet is I haven't knowingly listened to any personal / home audio amps $25k+ due to lack of interest right now so IDK where the limit is so to say.

Other than that, not enough new releases Q1-Q3 of 2020 overall, and especially not that I got to hear for me to make any nominations. Q4 stuff is too new and I haven't heard much of it due to covid + stay at home more.

I like the floating turd award. IDK if I'd give it to ASR though - no need to give them any more mention or publicity. It also makes us petty to some degree... on the flip side the banner says "not a normal forum" and the culture here is clear that "it's just headphones", don't take it too seriously.

Racist behavior or audio religion extremists don't deserve any mention really, good or bad.

I will echo few choices here and add a new one.

SW51+ (E) (V) is the true golden shlong here and I feel enough people have heard and been impressed this year (including me).
This amp is truly a game changer and puts many big boi amps to shame. I don’t need to name them but I sold them all in the past year. SW51 has magic transformers, uses cheap tubes, and has excellent synergy with HD650, @Zampotech is a shining example of how to be a part of an audio community. If it doesn’t strike gold this year, I will demand a recount! ;)

    Soundsmith MCP-2 MKII phono (E)(V)
It put my iFi phono 3 to shame. It has continuously variable loading and is a small one box MC solution. Thanks for dropping knowledge and being a great resource @Parker

    Schiit Jotunheim R (E)(V)
I’m still super impressed that @schiit created a whole new type of amp to drive the SR1A. It pairs sonically and aesthetically with Bifrost2. The fact that it sounds fantastic with SR1A is even more impressive. The combo is my new reference.

    VPI Classic (E) (L)
I finally got my hands on one of these used. I should’ve bought this years ago, but it was a lot of money. Luckily, used prices have come down a bit. Marv is right to hype this table. It is extremely well made and has the best speed stability of any of the belt drive tables I owned. This table combined with Soundsmith MIMC Star and MCP-2 have helped me complete my analog journey (for now). I’m just waiting for @Cakecake FS: Soundsmith Strain Gauge.

    P.S.
Ooh we, Mr. Poopybutthole is cool, so please call the award Captain Red Eye or something.

Since it looks like we can nominate a past SD to a GS, then I'll put my voice in for the SW51+ to get a GS for E and V. I see some posts wanting to give it an L, but I'm not sure it makes sense to give a longevity award to something that has only been around for 1-2 yrs.

    ---------Edit--------

I also saw some posts for the Soekris 2541... just a thought, does it make sense to give a 2020 award to something that isn't readily available yet? I'm sure its great and its on my list to audition (I hope there is a loaner tour), but we're at the end of November.

I fully support the idea that the ruling council can and will do whatever it wants, but it does seem somewhat contradictory to give a community award to something that isn't readily available yet and that only a very, very few will have had a chance to listen to.

I feel like the current options are a bit too on the nose. How about something like the dingleberry award? I feel like the illustration might be a bit more work-friendly.

I’ll second/third the Gaudio Nair for a GS for E/V. It’s one of those very rare headphones that due to careful, love labored tuning, sounds better than the sum of its parts/technical abilities. Very special and unique and deserves recognition.

I see the Sony M7 nominated a couple times. I think it deserves a silver. It’s got perfect FR, similar to the Nair and a part of the treble FR has timbre/tonality to die for. But as you descend down in FR it gains more and more rubbery tonality which is too severe for a GS IMO. Too bad as it has a lot going for it. But like I said I do think it deserves recognition for what it does right.

@purr1n has my M7 right now so maybe he’ll be able to weigh in if he has time to listen to them with all the backlog of gear he’s got to review. I know you’ll love the FR Purr1n!

ATC (L, V). Yes value considering what’s in them versus what’s in almost everything else except for:
Soundsmith Monarchs. Baller French woofer. Light bulb fuse. Killer. Amazing.
    NHT Supers (L, V)
Yamaha HS8 (L, V). The Chinese made monitors come and go. The JBL LSR 305 breaks. This is still the small studio standard

I'm only going to mention items that I've had my hands on this year that are "new"

    TWS:
Sony WF-1000XM3 - Really love these as an all-around "save me from shit sound" device

    Source:
Quedelix or whatever 5K - BT-Dongle-thingy with built-in neat features, such as PEQ and a solid all around source for basically any of my IEM's

(Wish I could vote Pi2AES, but I still can't afford to build one)

    Headphone:
Sennheiser HD-560S - Proof that Sennheiser doesn't completely have their heads up their butt. Closer tonally to the HE-1 than the rest of the lineup and does so while knowing its place as a 5 series and not stepping on anything called "6XX".

    IEM:
Moondrop Blessing 2 - Great looking 3D printing, Nicely finished exterior, weak accessories, perfect price, great all-around In-Ear that brings price back in line with performance. Some/most of these 1K plus IEM's have glaring issues that shouldn't exist after like.... $150.00-$300.00 IMO.

    Amp:
Unfortunately I'm going to mention the Topping L30, because it does exactly what I was needing for my Campfire Andromeda twins. I can tweak them at the source to my liking.

    ---BONUS SECTION---

Torpedo III for value/time tested. The prices these are going for with the new DSHA / L4 / ETC + resurgence of other great classic amps (BHA-1) has really made the T3 a nice choice for someone looking to power Hi-Z dynamics and not worry about jumping to the esoteric big leagues. IMO The T3 plays in that realm though. I enjoy the T3 - HD560S pairing.

    Fourm:
Audio Sc... Super Best Audio Friends. Everyone keeping it real through this madness and kept on topic (special threads just for the madness) This community and I'll praise head-fi too - seemed to keep their heads-up through our love of music.

Atomic Bob is for-sure Schlong worthy. But the list of those worthy "here" is HOOOGE - so Schlong us all up for making it through.

Probably catch flack for this but all my other recommendations have been named...

AirPod Pro for their excellent noise canceling, solid tuning and pretty good for $199 when they were on sale.

Another vote for the AirPods Pro for its extreme convenience and a tuning/signature that is far better than 80% premium IEMs in the current market.

    I'm gonna go with SW51 (V), MCP-2 (E), Pi2AES (V), Elekit TU-8600 (E). Maybe Wavedream (E), but feels a little hollow since it's kind of stupid money.

    • Pi2AES (EV) - I've nominated them every year. Should win every year!
    • Schiit Bifrost 2 (EV) - De facto recommendation at the price point and above.
    • 650 Jar - Sbaf classic 2020 edition.
    • Topping (just kiddin, F Amir)

I like the APP and I also like the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live. Totally different takes on the idea - Samsung sounds super natural due to being so damn open + the ergonomics really work for me (never had an in-ear feel this comfy in my life) and the airpod pro have great ANC and solid tuning.
