    Hi guys,

Does anyone know about the Grado GS1000e? I have a chance to buy one.
I´ve got the Hifiman 400i but maybe musicality and stage size is not their best points.

I´ve got a chord mojo and shures 215 & 535 (shures have much more musicality and smoothness than 400i)

    Regards

Also, if I'm not mistaken, I recall reading somewhere that all grado's use the very simmilar drivers (if not the same). So, getting a cheap sr60 or sr80 and swapping pads might be very close and muuuch cheaper. But I agree with @Mithrandir41. Not my cup of tea. Very bright, painfully so.
Do some research on that, might save you some cash.
I'm also interested in some good open back on ears, should such things exist.

Btw, guys here might apprechiate if you post in the "introduce yourself" thread.

To be more exact, the foam pads are crap, the sound has no body, and they are bright as hell. All midbass, with no extension. in short, they suck.

When I had the GS2000e (the bigger brother of the GS1000e), the sound was only bright if your amp/source was on the bright end. When running my old pair with tubes, it sounded good for what it is: A handmade product that hasn't changed much over the years. I still have a soft spot for Grados, but they are overpriced on the higher range (like the GS series). If you are 100% set on a GS1000e, get one used and as cheap as you can get (da overpriced factor).

Your profile said you are in Kuwait, so I don't even think you can get an used pair there. Also, Grados are ten times even more overpriced outside the US. I would look at other offerings in the $1000 range since those headphones will most likely be cheaper in Kuwait than the Grados.

I'm one of the weird ones who like the Grado aesthetic, especially their RS series; if I could get those woodies on the cheap I'd mod them to something more balanced sounding and keep them on as eyecandy. Sonically, though, they're a bit uninspiring unless you go with small ensemble jazz and acoustic, which I maintain they do well.

Had the RS1 (the early buttonless version) for a little while before I decided my old Beyer DT880s were the better pair of cans overall, after I stopped geeking out over how sexy the wood looked. I did get to try the GS1000i (I think? Could have been the e-series version) and while it was better than the RS1, I felt there were a few similarly-priced cans that were more a fit for my preferences, both comfort and sound wise.

If you are mechanically inclined or can 3D print some cups, you can order drivers from Nhord and build a grado style headphone that will sound better than every Grado I've heard aside from the PS-500e.

I don't know why the Grado family refuses to build headphones that have correct bass. It's like they have a chip on their collective shoulders.

Buy a time machine and return to 2018, no one buys Grados today, not even for their worst enemy.

SR60s aren't bad for the price if you want to kill your ears.

@Uri Cohen Yep, they can be preeeeeetty bad even at moderate volumes, ergo my explicitly stating that these were to be modded, haha. The older RS1 I had for a few months were less painful (and unlike the SR60i or SR80i I had on loan never triggered a tinnitus attack), but for the most part modern Grados aren't my cup of tea, much as I love their aesthetic.

@Lyer25 I know what you mean. I still love the Grado look but hate the ultra bightness of their cans. Then again, they also cause major pressures on your ears after a while. Depending on the model they can be good enough for Rock, but that's the limit in my opinion.

Are the Symphones Grado headphones still a thing? Oh wait, I think they became Turbulent X Labs or something, or maybe that became something else. I forget, but there's an entire industry devoted to making "custom" grado headphones.
