There appear to be a number of HD580/600/650 replacement earpads on ebay. But suspect they are not very good. Any advice or suggestions on where to get get replacement earpads?

    Thanks,

    -Tim

Yeah, don't get the Chinese replacements on eBay. Speaking from personal experience. I got lazy and never looked for legit pairs after. I'm sure Sennheiser sells em.

Out of stock at Sennheiser and the "Find a Dealer" turns up nothing.

B&H has some in stock [H50635], but the prices on them right now are highway robbery. Than again, they were always pricey.

When I put new ear pads and headband pad on my 650's I called up Senn customer service as their website said out of stock. They were very helpful and shipped quickly. I think it was roughly $60 for both, shipped. I seem to remember Amazon was charging outrageous prices for genuine senn pads.

Headphone.com has them for $70. Not cheap, but not too out of line if Sennheiser doesn't have them at $60.

So, what was your "personal experience"? I'm new here, and haven't researched the issue extensively. (As reported in another thread, I've had good luck with Chinese Grado pads. Also the prices of "genuine" (OEM) are significant fraction of a pair of used complete cans on eBay/Craig's List.

EDIT: The H-F topical thread seems to suggest that while the Chinese dupes aren't perfect, they aren't bad:

They straight up just wouldn't attach to my HD650 no matter what I tried.

Sennheiser has most of the parts, their various regional websites aren't very good.

Are the Chinese eBay pads closer to the old softer Sennheiser pads or the new, firmer ones? I used to have old HD580's that were very comfortable. My new ones (refurb HD580 w/new pads, with 650 drivers installed by me) have the firm pads and I find them uncomfortable. I wonder if the eBay pads might be softer.

Do the new firm Senn pads eventually break in to be as soft as the old style?

The new ones break in and become softer, yes.

My eBays arrived from China. Dunno what you got my two pairs (one for HD600, the other for 650) fit fine. I did have to press them in more firmly than stock, but they clicked securely.
That said, it's too early for me to comment on long-term comfort, durability/wear and, of course, sonics.

BTW: anyone know of a good source for that foam filter material -- very common in many brands/models of cans and speakers.

If you haven't tried the hm5 velours yet for the 650, you've really missed out. And for $20 which about half the price of the stock pads!!

If you're talking about the Brainwavz here...
    http://www.amazon.com/Brainwavz-Velor-Memory-Replacements-Earpads/dp/B00MFDX4YO
Yeah I do know about those ... but their description does not specify HD6xx replacement. Further, on the Amazon product page, Brainwavz claims that single model fits all this:

I don't see an option for ordering specific sizes???
    CONFUSED!!

It's one size fits all with those HM5 pads. I bought the velour ones for my HM5s and put the spare pleather ones on my friend's Takstar Pro80s with a perfect fit.
