There may be something holding back your 650 in your chain. I can't describe the KISS modded 650 as veiled at all. (Though you may need to listen at higher volumes than you're used to.)

"Veiled" has to be the most overused audiophile term. At this point I just substitute "my gear has horrible synergy".

Yes, I am relying on Macbook Pro internal Dac so DAC is definitely weakest part of my chain. I have Modi 2 coming soon so hopefully, it helps improving sound further.. :)

Yep. my audio vocabulary is terrible. I will delete "Veil" from my vocabulary permanently. :)

    Decomo,
You might want to try removing the front foams and see if there's any difference.

I just realised that my previous comment was incorrectly stated.

No wonder, I am getting recommendation to check source and remove foam cover and so on.. :) I was meant to say Kiss mod without coin mod was a bit less clear but with Coin mod, it did better for me in terms of clarity and resolution. I must typed in a hurry and stated " Kiss Mod as well quarter mod... I found that it is still a bit veiled." by mistake. Then state, "so it did better for me with coin mod.".

I am very happy with Kiss Mod + Coin Mod together. :)

I just got some dynamat today!
How is it without the half mooned foam?
Tips on removing the protective tape? Or do you guys stick dobbelsided tape on the aluminium side?

Bass is less controlled and moar without rear foam.

Cut from the aluminum side with a craft knife, then peel it off of the tape. It's sticky and fiddly, but worth it.

HD650 is KISS'd and I'm thankful for this thread. Only two foam discs in this brand new copy, though.

Sick but I put the template in the first post. That's literally all the pieces you need to cut

Hmm, it seems like there's a bit of channel imbalance in the sub-bass area that I noticed before modding my HD 650. Since doing the KISS mod I tried removing the foam disc from the weak side to see if it evened it out, but it bumped up the slightly higher frequencies of the mid-bass. Not exactly what I needed. Do I just have to live with it?

Finally got around to doing this mod and now seem to have a little bit of a channel imbalance. I was pretty careful to keep cuts as consistent as possible, but with the goo, it wasn't easy. If one side seems slightly louder, am I assuming correctly that it likely has less mass on it? Unfortunately, I don't have a mic for measurements so have to go by ear to correct.

I can't see a slight difference in the amount of Dynamat resulting in channel imbalance. For me the goo tightened the bass, whereas removing the rear foam increased the amount. Is the difference in loudness the same across the whole freq range?

The primary cause of channel imbalance is insertion depth of the crescent foam, not dynamat. Every mm counts.

Won't claim mine is balanced, but it's under 3 dB (my sensitivity treshold).

One of the reasons I laid my foam flush on the surface. It's supposed to be KISS, and I couldn't see how I'd manage to push the foam exactly in 0.5mm into the hole on both sides

    I actually do.
    pm me

    edit: Nvm, sorry I don't

    edit 2:
I do have the foam cover thing from the ear pads, which people said work with cutting though, if you want.

That's okay, I didn't realize they are behind the driver, I'm sure they are there, I was thinking they were elsewhere. I guess I should have read further before yelling for help. :)
