Because there's so much in this thread I don't understand due to it being written in French, we're changing the official language of SuperBAF to Esperanto and everyone is mandated to post in Esperanto only starting tomorrow.

Can we get the exact dimensions of the HD800S resonator?

Ok tested with complys and Shure Olive are still better. better 6khz taming and better bass extension ;). I'm done for now an i'll stick with my Shure tips.

I'll do my best to measure the HD800S resonator but I've not the good tool to do that. You'll have to wait a bit.

@sorrodje http://imgur.com/a/neAsz including the mods, one side with the rubber white tubing, one side without. No sonic differences, I'm gonna go with just leave the rubber tubing in and no reason to go through the hassle of removing it.

Edit: Retracting the previous statement, it does make a difference, get the tubing out!

Good stuff, I'm absolutely loving it. Tamed but there's still that sparkle so it hasn't been killed off too much. I'm not sure if the way the HD800S is showing to perform that it would be entirely what I want. Will post my side by side posts as soon as I can audition is planned on Thursday!

Any clue if medium shure olives would work, or did you specify large for a specific reason? I have a bunch of mediums (with the little grill inside) laying around

Poochzag, the point is to fill up completely the hole in the donut.

So mediums are likely too small, thank you

I just bought a pack of Shure Olive Larges (PA910L) from Earphone Solutions, to try this once I grow the stones to take that screen off. I'll have 3 extra pairs, if you're in the US and like one, PM me and I'll throw them in an envelope for you. I should receive them sometime next week

Edit: I'm assuming PA910L is the right model number, there are also EABKF1-10L that look similar. Probably doesn't make a difference?

I don't know that they are the same. Looks like the newer model has a white crosshatched "filter" that partially blocks off the inner tube. If the goal is to remove the tube, maybe that doesn't matter though.

I didn't know there was one without, I know I ordered the 910L and they're specified as being the EABKF1-10L as seen on multiple sites and sources, so it could also be that the one without is no longer made?

I just know that without the tubing there seems to be more air in a positive way, hence why I'd definitely recommend taking the time to remove it.

    Further impressions after a day.
Wow! @sorrodje and co, seriously awesome job guys. I can't believe how many things are easier to listen to, while at the same time I'm not losing that treble sparkle entirely so there's a certain kick to it. I don't think I want it gone and I think this does exactly that. With the other mods in, that elevate the mids and improve the bass, I can comfortably say that side the SBAF absorber (and seeing what materials works best with it to compliment it) I'm gonna stop it right here. This was exactly what was needed for me to truly enjoy this can to it's fullest and call it a day with the rest of the mods.

I will still post impressions of my modded HD800 vs. HD800S on Thursday and will try to go for just the Super Dupont mod to check for similarities.

I have a question. So basically, is the HD800S a palette swapped HD800 plus resonator?

In other words, if we were somehow able to reproduce an exact replica of the HD800S resonator (identical in dimensions and the material used) and insert it into a HD800, would it sound theroretically identical to an HD800S? Or, are there other anatomical differences between HD800 and HD800S besides the resonator that accounts for a different sound overall? Because if the only real difference is that small donut-shaped rubber resonator (which could cost less than $10 to produce apiece?) I think Sennheiser might be ripping us off with the +$200 surcharge.

Of course, if you consider the amount of time and R&D costs they have spent to come up with that "mod" in the first place, then I guess it is sort of understandable... if that 6K peak could be tamed with something as simple as that, I haven't seen or heard of any previous HD800 mods that have attempted anything similar before HD800S's resonator was unveiled to the public. Gotta give 'em credit for that.

On a side note, if the only real difference is the resonator, then wouldn't applying SuperBAF mod (which supposedly brings the mids more forward) also help with HD800S as well as HD800? It seems that the general consensus is to go HD800 + SuperBAF mod + Dupont resonator for the best sound currently available with HD800. If that's the case I don't see why HD800S wouldn't benefit as much.

I guess one could make the argument that a headphone that doesn't need to be modded, plus a balanced cable, is worth $200 to some people, and in that context it doesn't seem too bad by Sennheiser. However once you take into account street prices of both new and especially used HD800's in 2016, that $200 gap becomes MUCH bigger

Yeah - looks like the original shure olive part number is discontinued but still available through some amazon sellers. I just ordered a pack, since that appears to be what sorrodje used, but who knows - the revised version may sound/measure even better.

How did you go about removing the tube from the EABKF1-10L? Is it glued to the foam or can you just pull it out?
