Hifiman are sending me a Sundara headband so I can compare them directly. Probably fruitless, but hey, free heasband I guess.

Yeah, seems like they realized good customer service and trying to figure problems out is important.

Edit: which, upon reflection, is similar to the "we'll fix it in post" mentality, but at least they're not just abandoning it :p

With my V2 unit the headband mechanism is VERY HARD to extend, I mean, it is cutting metal to pull them out and I need to extend them all the way out to fit my head and even then the pleather piece is tight! They just sound like a inferior driver compared to the HE560V1.5 ... Anyone else feel that way?

The lack of bass might be a clamp issie. They need to leak some air pressure to get enough sub bass excursion.

News from Adorama from my Reddit thread:

I apologize for the delay in updating you all here. We stopped the sale of these headphones, Hifiman is sending 2 people to our warehouse in the next week, to replace all headbands on our existing headphone inventory, as well as making sure the remaining inventory is updated.

If you need a replacement please email our Customer Services Team - [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) with your order number, WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS!!

    *Best wishes*

It's great that they're fixing the issue, but very disconcerting that they leave the QC up to customers. I wonder what the return rate on these units are in order to elicit this response. Jokingly, I figured they would have fixed the issue and released the HE-560 V3 advertising a 50% increase in comfort.

I'm worried about what the fix really is... Someone asked Adorama and got a response that seemed to suggest they were going in with the assumption that these headbands were manufactured wrong, and applyibg Sundara sized headbands to fix it... That would be a massive waste of time and money, and I've told HiFiman about this possibility.

    THIS

    Cannot sum it up better.

Once, a small metal part (inside the headband) of my HEK broke, I took photos and showed Hifiman as proof. And asked if they can send me that tiny metal replacement and i can fix it myself. No biggie. Nope. they insisted I send my unit back to China. Where is the logic in that? That thing costed $3k. We deserve better than that.

Of course this didn't work for me! Adorama is asking that I return the whole unit and they also let me know that they can't guarantee a replacement! How ridiculous. I should've known the combination of HifiMAN and Adorama would turn into a quality disaster.

I'm sure they would do that, they are still in business.

I got contacted externally by Adorama after submitting my request. No idea why.

I'm getting the same nonsense from Adorama = just return it, no indication of an exchange possibility. This, of course, after I was told I could exchange it and repacked the damn thing.

HiFiman customer service confirmed to me that they are puttibg NEW headbands on them, with longer straps. So most likely it'll fix the problem :)

And now I'm thinking about maybe just keeping them, but that's assuming they'll sound like 560's with the lesser clamp of the new headbands... Anyone have thoughts on that?

Further correspondence with Adorama confirms they will do exchanges but it's a "backorder" situation so you might have to sit in purgatory awhile. Personally, I've reached my threshold and will get a refund and save for something higher up the chain of SQ and reliability.

That's not difficult at all. Your benchmark here is very low.

That seems a bit premature, though. You may be/probably are right, but we haven't had too many people hear these, if they sound like an original 560 or whatever. Going further up the food chain makes a lot of sense to me.
