Maybe sasha means production discontinued. Would be interesting to know.

I'm fairly sure the whole old style HE400/500/6..etc line is discontinued in the sense that they are no longer manufacturing them. New HE-400 and 500's still lingered in the market for a while, becoming scarce recently, and looks like there's still plenty of new HE-6's too.

Except, when that happened with the HE-400/500, the price was lowered significantly on head-direct to get the rest of them sold off quickly. This is not the case with the HE-6; they've been $1200 for as long as I can remember over there.

True, but as Bobcat said, they're under 1k new on Amazon from many different sellers. The HE-500 dropped in price slowly, and then once all new stock was gone the used market shot way up (I was intently following both aspects, as I bought during the drop and just sold recently during the spike). I'm pretty sure they aren't making any of the old style anymore, HE-6 included, and am wondering if the same thing will happen to it. This is the one remaining headphone I have deep curiosity over, maybe I'll watch trends and grab one before it's too late...

HE-560 is also discounted, looks like holiday blitz for more sales.

Get one for $998, it's a great price, if you don't like it return it, and then when you feel regret for returning it, buy it back open box for $798.

Got a chance to listen to the HE6 recently. Dont remember the amp/dac name, somewhat like devi***** and looks like a huge induction cooktop. There were 2 pair of HE6, both had the grill mod and regular as well as audeze vegan pads. With vegan pads the bass was super hard hitting.
With either pads the general impression was that the bass had impact, depth and was real clean. Timbre was off, too lean sound, bad resolution in the mids, splashy treble, great speed, little compressed sound similar to all modern orthos.
    But that bass was great.
Tube amps may pair better and should tame the lean sound.

I grabbed a pair at MSRP a couple months before the holiday deals. Not even upset about it, they're great. I mean, these sound awesome out of my "modest" Project Ember and Vali 2. Seriously. Beta22 on the way for next spring though, hopefully.

So every once in a while purrin makes reference to certain HE-6 mods done by some of you guys. I think by @ohhgourami, @jerg, etc...couple of questions on this:
    1. Can someone point me to a run-down of these mods?
    2. Are each of these mods different from person to person? (persons above)
    3. Have HE-6 mods stabilized over the years to a recommended "set" the way HD650 mods have?

@sphinxvc, I think the HE-6 mods vary a bit depending on user. Definitely have a look at the measurements I've made regarding some of these mods. Right now, I'm having a good time with some very simple mods: remove fiberglass from the back of the driver, remove the foam piece from the ear side of the driver, fuzzor mod, and vegan pads.

Obviously the speaker amp is absolutely key. The words "properly", "power", and "shine" come to mind.

Taking off the grill (replacing with a more open material is optional) and new pads are the main mods. A piece of felt or other damping under the pads is the next one; if it's the vegan pads, then leave an opening in the middle or it'll get quite muddled.

HE-6 arrived. On ergonomics, after 9 months of living with the HD650, these are very uncomfortable. Ugh.

Yknow I'd already have one if the ergonomics werent trash. Seriously, $1200 should get you a proper enclosure too guys, not just good drivers. I feel like I wouldn't be able to NOT mod the shit out of these the second I received them. That headband would be so gone, so f'ing fast.

You need to bend the headband to the shape of your skull or it will never be comfortable. It won't break as it's a flexible metal band meant to be bent.
