    Anyway. Back on target:

Fostex Fn168E Sigma in a ported box. Augment with subs. Done. Get JLH69 amp as a holdover while you assess amp options.

I assume the Elekit TU8600 that he already built* is the whole reason for this high eff. speaker search. I'm sure the JLH69 would be perfect to keep around as a backup/alternative once the budget allows for it.

TBH there is some kool-factor associated with those Elekit's. I saw one at T.H.E. Show some time ago and while I cannot say a damned thing about their sound, some of those kits look really nice.

Aw man, I miss having Rex around. He would have jumped right in with all the horn talk :(

my experience with hi eff bookshelve is limited to: reference 3a decapo be, fostex fe127en + subs, mark audio alpair 12p in ported enclosure and Audio Note AN-J .

the reference 3a decapo-i would be my suggestion. enough bass, very good imaging, good coherence, musical. buy used and resell if they dont work. they are very impressive speakers

I've also listened to the mm decapos and agree, mostly. Over all they had a bit too much sizzle from the Be tweeter for my tastes but great body and weight from guitar which is my go-to. Gregory Porter's voice was impressively weighty and raspy like I'd never heard, even on headphones. With a sub these we really compelling overall.

I once visited a man who had really signed up for the low-watts-high-efficiency dogma. His amplification was vintage tube stuff, and his speakers were built from cinema-salvaged drivers. Nothing there that would fit on a bookshelf, even a really-high efficiency one ;). Even the tweaters were huge units, and required horns. All thrown together in fairly rough and ready diy wordwork and cabled with whatever bit of wire happened to be to hand.

The listening room was far too small for such a system too. But still, I can say that I don't think I have ever had such feeling of being there as I got from that system.

    Build bigger shelves?

(deja vu... Or I posted much the same thing recently? <Blush>)

According to the pictures, they match your 1999-2005 imac perfectly.

Well, they are pretty, sure. And the price is certainly serious, but, the sound?

For "bookshelves," I suppose one could install the drivers in the next-door house, and just have the horn mouth opening into the room

Love it! But guys, guys... I get this feeling that maybe we are not actually helping @Griffon get his speakers!

To be fair, @Griffon pooched it right out of the gate asking for speakers for a mall space that were 6x10 feet. Based on that, I'd say we've actually been undersizing so far...
