IC: Austin Meet in May?

@Joshvar @famish99 @weicheheck @Erroneous and any other Austin peeps, looking to organize some kind of meet in May. @Erroneous has agreed to host, and @weicheheck is new to town and I felt it would be a good chance for him to meet everyone and for us to get together again, been too long!

 

I'm of course down. Mondays and Tuesdays are always good after work. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays after work some weekends are good. Wednesdays and Thursdays are only good while kiddo is at school.
Let's get together and share some music!

Also @caute should come down and meet everyone if he can make it.

I would love to meet some of you in person! I can bring along some interesting gear/headphones as well if it's a gear type of meet.

 

I am in Houston and would love to join. But I am out starting 2nd week of May due to travel. If I am unable to this time, will def try to join for the next meetup.

 

I'll try to trek from Houston as well depending on day/time. I'm also open to hosting something at my place if there are some Houston SBAFers.

@Erroneous is a welcoming host! I'm sure it will be a good time.

 

A Houston meet will be awesome. Easier to bring gear as well.

Second week of May maybe? My Tues/Wed/Thurs is totally open and usually the best days for me. But I can usually do daytime weekends but time is a little more limited then.

 

Tuesday starting 7:30pm, or Wed/Thurs while the kiddo is in school works for me. I know most people have to work during the day so not sure if any of that works for everyone.

 

I'd prefer Tuesday evening since I usually can make most evenings work with enough notice. Come May, work is having me return to the office so anything during the day will be hard for me. I can also host a small weekend shindig too if needed.

 

Tuesday evening May 9th works for me if it works for everyone else. @famish99 I can get you a copy of my house key and y'all can start earlier than I get home from work.

 

Tues eve is perfect!

 

I will probably be flying out of town the 10th early, but I can at least make it for part of whatever you guys get up to, count me in.

 

Bring anything you want. What do you have in mind?

 

Well I recently bought @rhythmdevils First Watt AlephJ and it is a beast. I also Have an Abbas 2.3 SE DAC I bought from @Ksorota you guys might be interested in trying out?

I'd be happy to bring a whole audio chain that I find very enjoyable but it would be a lot of stuff and quite bulky so if that's too much I can just bring whatever you guys are most interested in.

For headphones I have a lot of old school Hifiman stuff, modded 4 screw HE6, stock-ish 6 Screw HE6 (@Ksorota helped me get this one and my 5LE back to proper form), HE500, HE5LE. On the more modern side I have an HE6 SE (not V2), and an Arya (I thought they sucked at first but have been enjoying them a lot lately, they seem to be very picky on the upstream/ need good synergy) I have a dark tuned RAD 0 as well but the left driver stopped working out of nowhere, I hadn't even been using it so I don't know what's up with that .

So uhhh, too much stuff to bring lol. But if you guys want I can bring a full chain maybe with something like Abbas or Yggdrasil LIM (got the Yggdrasil from @brencho -> preamp (choice of Freya S (courtesy @earnmyturns, or Kenzie Encore got on USAM thanks to @3X0 linking it, anyone curious about Kenzie could try it as headlamp as well) -> Aleph J -> choice of a couple headphones?

A ton of the gear I have has been acquired from users here so I am more than happy to give others the chance to listen to it as well!

 

Been itching to try the ampsandsound and Abbas stuff, so bring the Kenzie and Abbas DAC for sure. I'm not that into planars but maybe I haven't heard them properly amped, I'd be curious about the Hifimans. Maybe also bring the LIM to compare to the Abbas? Or at the very least to have another source handy. I can bring @Joshvar 's rig (Jot2/BF2) if he's cool with it.

 

Don't plan around me - I'm still unreliable, but will try so I can meet the gang!

 

@weicheheck Please do bring a chain that synergizes well with the Abbas and whatever headphones you determine work great on that chain. Plus whatever else you want to bring but I'd love to hear a bigger Abbas since I've only heard the .1 and I know that's the bottom end of his offerings. But yeah whatever you're comfortable bringing, bring it.

 

All right well I'm happy to bring a full chain. I'm a big fan of Abbas -> Kenzie -> Aleph J for a nice tubey and spacious sound with gentler treble (I have some peaky headphones). I'll bring that chain and the 4 screw He6, and a couple other headphones as well.

I like to compare chains at a time as it makes it easier to spot the differences, so maybe I'll just bring that along with a Yggdrasil + Frey chain that both lead into the Aleph and you guys can get a sense for the difference the Dac + preamp sides makes on the sound that way.
