As the PP8 is quite tip dependent I thought to post some of my impressions with different tips:
First off I started with the In-Ear silicone tips, which were okeyish, I mean quite good, and I always heard the PP8 with them when I auditioned them, but after I bought the IEM I quickly switched to the SpinFits that came with the package. There was too much bass with the Spinfits and somehow I thought to miss something. With the Complys there was too less treble energy. After that I got the Symbios (normal bore) hybrids, with them the PP8 have quite a unique sound, pleasant to listen to, but somehow I got the feeling that the mids went missing. After that I bought the ortofon tips (thanks to @shotgunshane). This was the first time when I thought, wow, now that´s how universal IEMs should be worn, very comfy, and also sound very good with (what I think) a meatyer, and at the same time crunchier sound than with the other tips. So I listened to them over a month now and enjoyed the PP8.
At last I got the Spiral Dots (thanks to @jowls), and I have to agree with him, they sound the "best", though the Ortofon are the most comfortable for long time listening sessions. (Oh, by the way, I didn´t have any problem with putting the spiraldots onto the bore - they fit perfectly onto the bore and don´t fall off or anything, so I don´t know why you have to make that mod you wrote a few posts above? I use small tipps, maybe you have got large ones and therefore the bore ist wider and that´s why you have to make that mod?) What makes the Spiraldots so special is, IMO, that they allow me to activate the bass switches, because I felt that they suppress the mid bass quite a bit (without attenuating the subbass, which I like), so when I activated the bass switches, I felt that the bass was elevated maybe only 2 db than 3 db (e.g. with the ortofons), and thats exactly how I like them. If I remember correctly I read that @purr1n and others said, when the bass switch is ON, there is maybe 1 db too much, and now, with the spiraldots, this problem seems solved, at least for me. In addition the spiral dots let more treble energy through, which opens up the soundstage a bit. It doesn´t feel so cramped anymore and therefore the imaging is also a bit better, more effortless sound presentation overall. Alas, as said above, they don´t fit as snugly as the Ortofons.
All the listening is made with my Calyx M DAP, so YMMV, and besides that I´m just a "rando Porker", so what do I know, right?
By the way: I don´t hear any upper mid shoutiness ever with them but felt that the treble of the Andros is too much to my liking, so I guess I´m more into the leaner PP8 presentation. As said, this may also be because of my source, so all of the above is to read with a grain of salt.
