This isn't really news, Fang and HFM in general are fairly sleazy when they believe that they can get away with it.

(Yes, on my second pair of HFM cans, and they work for me- but they're only HE-560. I'm not sure I'd be confident dropping four digit amounts on anything that they made. It's a shame, they have flashes of brilliance, sometimes.)

Fang Bian, in Chinese, sounds very similar to the Chinese for convenience (方便. same English romanization) has always done what was most convenient for his brand, nothing more.

Except his name in Chinese is Bian Fang since the family name comes first: 邊仿博士 (Bian Fang, PhD)

However, your point is still valid.

Does make me wonder what percentage of HFM sales are Amazon trigger pulls. "don't shit where you eat," and so forth?

Business as usual for many Amazon sellers.

To be fair, most of them just say "leave a review" and "if you're going to rate lower than 5, please contact us to see where else we can better help you" not "give us 5 stars and we will give you free stuff."

This normal for many Chinese manufacturers. Remember this is HiFiMan, the same company that misappropriated a Changstar account to spy on private correspondences, send them to Jude, and blame me for their pricing fiasco on the beta HE1000s. Let's not forgot this very same company fired one of its representatives (who was an ambassador of sorts to SuperBAF) because Jude complained. Jude didn't like us getting the scoop of the HEX and HE400S before he did.

I will always treat their products fairly when it comes to impressions and measurements; but I don't exactly have fond feelings for the brand.

Word for word though, that's what they said when the first red envelope was exchanged for illicit/nefarious purposes back in the Qin dynasty. In other words, I'm not sure this is news. The next exposé will be that Kingwa has Amazon Dash for "global emergency stock" PCM1704UK.

There's a huuuge number of PCM1704s on taobao actually.

Isn't pretending that components are running out more Kingwa's speed?

Part 1-2, though the guy deleted his threads for whatever reason. They were charging him $200 for a replacement headband for the HE-6 but $50 for the same headband for a HE-400i I believe.

edit: It was a different guy, as you can see where part 3 is still up. This thread they're just ignoring this fellow.

Fang's response about the Amazon saga ;)

    1) Why did you want to pay customers to give higher product ratings? (sell more, make more money?)

    1. We don't want to pay customer to give high rates. The problem is actually on the opposite: there are a lot of one star amazon reviews from customers who did not buy our products. Fortunately we have contacted amazon to remove some of them. Amazon team encourage us try to contact our real amazon customers to give real comment/reviews in amazon.

Apparently it's all about improving the technology :

From our current understanding of the technology, HE400 is overall lacking details, HE6 is too bright in the high. Those problem can be clearly attributed to driver and diaphragm design.

We have to stop them, because some people like them doesn't means they are perfect and cannot be improved. I know if I do care about money, I should keep them available. But I do care more on improving planar technology.

Yeah, because giving the customer what they want is a terrible way to make money.
