    ?

title pretty much says it all. Infrared is kind of yesterday’s news so I couldn’t find anything on google and Reddit won’t let me post in the gadgets section because I haven’t been a member for 6 years with a million Karma points and tons of timely, witty posts. It’s for my A/C which resets to default settings every time I turn it off so every time I turn it on I have to go through the same sequence of buttons every time. Which is sometimes hard for me...

    thanks

Logitech harmony remotes along with the app can do this automation. It is not that cheap IR remote but worth invest as universal remote for all devices at home with automation and other features.

You can use your cell phone or tablet combined with the Logitech Harmony Hub to create what they call "Activities". The hub comes with a IR blaster and connects to your phone/tablet over WiFi. I wanted to be sure it would work for a situation similar to yours so I just brought a second IR controlled floor fan to my computer room and made an Activity to turn them both on and then make one oscillate. Worked great.

Thanks for doing that for me @OldDude04 !! But it needs to be a remote not my phone. I’ve got a chronic illness that is bad after waking up so much so that reconfiguring the a/c every time is hard for me. I only use a/c when it’s really hot in my room btw, and even then I turn it off as soon as the sun starts to go down.

So is this what you’re talking about?

    https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-Infrared-Control-Extender/dp/B084HM373X

    or this one maybe
    https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-915-000293-Harmony-Advanced-Remote/dp/B077Q9C8T8

how about this one that’s way cheaper? It says it does what I need but who knows.

I wish there was a learning remote with just a few buttons and nothing else that could learn multiple sequential buttons and turn them into one button.

Thanks so much for the replies!

    No problem man.

The one I was referring to is linked in my original post (THIS ONE). But if it has to be a physical remote, you can get the 2nd one you linked to. As for the SofaBaton remote you linked to, I have no experience with the device or brand so I can't be of any help there.

Such overkill. I only need 2 buttons really. One learned button that turns on the a/c plus changes a few settings, and a simple off button.
Thanks again. Modern tech is amazing...

The Harmony Companion can do what you want. And once you set up the activity, you can also use Alexa or Google Assistant to trigger the activity by voice

Hmmm I seem to have magically received a mystery remote in the mail because of this thread. No instructions just a tiny Apple-ish sized remote with an on and off button. No idea where it came from.

If your illness makes movement difficult maybe look into getting an echo dot which works with the Logitech gear but if your ac is wifi or bt enabled it may have a standalone Alexa skill. Of course it may be convenient to control other things with the Harmony + voice control. You can also set up automated tasks to perform an action (like shut down or turn on your ac) at a certain time and connect it to your stereo for a budget music streamer (tho I don’t think the dot has digital out). It’s pretty amazing tech for the price.

It looks like one of those cheap camera remotes, that does the shutter and nothing else (which is just what I do with an app and the IR blaster on my phone). There should be some clue as to what make it is matched to?

If useless in practical terms, I feel it deserves a place as an artwork. Hang it on the wall, with a little brass plaque: "The Buttons"

Since you posted this @rhythmdevils I have been searching for you. Found many complicated solutions that wouldn't work. I found two remotes from the same maker but they come in 2 sizes. These may be just what you are looking for. I can only verify the functionality of the bottom most one as someone in my IRC chat just received it.
    Cheers !

@Gazny Thanks for your help! I actually bought the first one there because it’s cheap, on the off chance it will learn multiple buttons into one button. Do you have a link for the aluminum one? I might write the ebay sellers and ask.

I also bought this from amazon.
    https://www.amazon.com/Inteset-Universal-Backlit-Learning-Streamers/dp/B00M4I1BAY

Because it’s only 25$ doesn’t come with an “infrared blaster” and says it can learn up to 30 buttons in one in some automation buttons at the bottom of the remote.

One thing I’m not sure of is if the learned buttons will be emitted slow enough or with enough time in between for the AC to pick them up. I think it’s designed to act on multiple devices not all on one.
