I did post after hearing him at SFJAZZ with Wil Blades (Hammond organ), Scott Amendola (drums), and Cyro Batista (percussion). It was a splendid gig. I sort of knew of Amendola and Batista as they've been around the NYC avant-garde scene for a long time, appearing in multiple John Zorn productions, but Parker and Blades were new to me and a revelation. They had a few different CDs for sale outside, including The New Breed :) My Jeff Parker collection since then has grown:

    Slight Freedom
    The Relatives
    Bright Light in Winter

He also plays as a sideman in Will Blades's Field Notes.

Just got back home from 2 weeks of travel, some backlog of new jazz releases. Here's the first I'm listening to this very early morning (thanks to 10 hours of jetlag). Think watching a dark, starry night sky away from artificial light, with snowy mountain peaks barely etched on the dark horizon, a hint of Northern lights above the mountains, a slight cold breeze making the night air alive around you. Yes, that magical and awe-inspiring, every single note counting.

Just out on Intakt/Bandcamp. I had tickets for their recent SFJAZZ gig, but I had to travel instead. Dense, rich layering of different sounds, spacious. Avant-garde-ish without being totally alien. A keeper.

Growing up in Monterey, I was exposed to amazing jazz as a child:

That whole album is outstanding, not the least by bringing together three of my favorite musicians who AFAIK never played together elsewhere: Craig Taborn, Christian McBride, and Tyshawn Sorey.

I just discovered this from a friend...it starts a bit slow & builds nicely. I think I like it.

Thanks @earnmyturns , for the tip on Myrea Melford. Great music. Everything else on you recent acquisition list I have heard. I especially like the Henry Threadgill, he should be designated a national treasure. I suppose he isn't quite as breathtakingly innovative as some years ago, but that is because he broke all that ground already! Even at his age it is hard to think of anyone more exciting live...

    Anyway, thanks for the tip.

Hear is one back, something I've discovered in france. It's a little more out there,,,

And one more, Gabriel Zucker's Weighting, giving me shivers, intensely eerie, maybe the best surprise of the last several months. Still going through a first pass, but what a first impression!
