When it first popped up, they had a package that included their whole back catalog with a preorder of these. I haven't had time to listen to the new albums yet, but I think I'll have them queued to check out later today.

Thanks! And...thanks. Now I’m down that rabbit hole. :) It’s not quite Michael Mann’s Heat, but it’s as close as I’ve seen on a tv series, and with better music. Not a bad platform for post-bop. The sound production in general is pretty good, too.

I'm not about to subscribe to Amazon Prime and endure their bizarre pricing & sign-in weirdness for just this one show. And that's really too bad, because after reading all the Michael Connelly "Bosch" novels, it became pretty clear that any series based on this character would have a rich jazz soundtrack filled w/bebop, post-bop, Coltrane, Miles, modal music, etc.

The mention of Michael Mann's HEAT is poignant for me--I lost track of how many times I've seen this amazing film (I'd drop everything right now just to see it again).

Speaking of amazing jazz soundtracks, I remember watching ANATOMY OF A MURDER on TCM years ago and being bowled over by Elllington's astonishing soundtrack. Days later I had that recording and have listened to it at least once or twice a month ever since (but couldn't tell you much about the film itself, which pales by comparison).

I especially love the early recordings by Sarah Vaughan, before years of singing & life on the road roughened her lower register. For example, her mid-'40s duets with Billy Eckstine are pretty special.

And then there are her recordings with Clifford Brown. He was 23 when this was recorded. Two years later he was gone. Listen to his perfectly stretched/paced post-bop phrasing on this tune:

Sometimes you just have to go back to the source: Louis Armstrong.

The intro to this tune blew my mind the 1st time I heard it. I'll bet it was like a bomb going off in the ears of early-jazz listeners in '28...a time when the "solo" barely existed.

Two new releases from Paal Nilssen-Love just came in the mail. What a week of great music it has been!
Both of course highly recommended. This is one hell of a way to go into the weekend!

Been traveling too much to have time to report on new music, but there are a few gems in the queue that I'll talk about when I get back home. In the meanwhile, check Bandcamp for Magdalena by María Grand. Not your standard jazz album, for sure, but my first, partial listen before I left for the airport went from "what?" to "wow!"

A little Roon Radio discovery this morning, generated from Nik Bartsch's Ronin. There's a swagger and grit to this track that I've decided to embrace as I head off to work today.

Todd Sickafoose is a great bassist. Besides having the coolest last name ever, he also plays a lot with Ani Difranco.
Ani knows what she is doing also having Allison Miller on drums in her band.

Allison's Otis was a Polar Bear has been in regular rotation as well. That damn "Best Albums of 2018" thread added quite a bit to my playlists. Nicely done @pedalhead.
