    Been listening to that album too, thought I had mentioned it earlier, but I've got such a stack of new music to report on...

    Unfortunately they are just touring a bit in the US Midwest around the end of the month. Not too surprising, Halvorson and Fujiwara have very full schedules:

    Christian Sands Trio (Yasushi Nakamura on bass, Jerome Jennings on drums) played yesterday at SFJAZZ. Much more traditional bop than what I usually report on here. Sands has outstanding technique that allows him to create tightly woven variations, just slightly off-center chords, an engaging blues tone, rhythmic surprise. His bandmates keep up, too. Played music from his Facing Dragons album, ended with a delightfully aery rendering of Monk's Evidence. Highly satisfying. If you are in the Bay Area, they are still playing today, 6pm and 7:30pm. Worth the trip!

    I've been a fan of Chris Potter since 1999. He's, in my opinion, the most interesting saxophonist of his generation, making progress from album to album, becoming a great band leader, in addition to being a phenomenal soloist, and composer. His record deal with ECM was highly beneficial to both parties, and this album is a great example of this collaboration.

    The "new" Vijay Iyer trio at SFJAZZ last night was the best live performance I've heard with Iyer (and I've heard quite a few with different ensembles). Stephan Crump on bass, climbing new peaks of improvisational skill. And the SFJAZZ debut of Jeremy Dutton, a gifted young drummer from Houston that is like a combination of the best Eric Harland and Brian Blade traits: taut, light, fast, no redundant strokes, constantly weaving new pattern variations. Dutton with Iyer and NIck Dunston instead of Stephan Crump:

    I had to share this video that @monacelli posted in the WAYLTRN2 thread ICYMI. Incredible performance from Hiromi, Anthony Jackson & Simon Phillips.

    If aliens came to earth and asked "what's jazz?", this video would be one of the first things I'd share.

    If you are interested in checking the other recordings of this little superb boutique label without having to buy the whole catalog, it is possible as they have released an excellent sampler with their most recent DXD recordings.
    Highly recommended listening;
    [IMG]
    "With our new DXD sampler recording engineer Frans de Rond is proving once again that his knowledge of mic placement and use of equipment is in a class of his own.
    He is able to create a sound stage, that projects an almost visual image of the musicians. A sound stage which is intimate but also has depth and space.
    The sound on the recordings presented here are like a three dimensional Van Gogh painting, where you can step in and take a look around."

    Nothing about this on YouTube yet, but why wait, just go get it on Bandcamp. The deepest, most calming work of contemporary jazz that I've heard all year.

    If some of you does not know him already, Dave douglas, is a real good musician and trumpet artist who made something new from jazz inspiration...A real good jazz craftmanship in this album...

    I like trumpet more than sax.... I prefer more ethereal sound...If you dont know this album of Freddie Hubbard....Go and buy it...A marvel of craftmanship to say the least...

    Thank to you and Qobuz, listening now :) Having had the luck of hearing Jack DeJohnette, Ron Carter, and Herbie Hancock live in a variety of settings, this is a real gift.
