Two items were likely stolen from the OC meet in January of this year. Please be on the lookout for them on eBay, Head-Fi, Audiogon, etc.
    • HiFiMan HE-X Headphones S/N #5111435 and #5111436
    • Shure V15 Type V xMR Phono Cartridge
It was only in the past week that we realized the Shure cartridge was missing. We didn't report the HE-X because we simply assumed that one of us may have accidentally packed it into our bag and that it would show up sooner or later. Almost everyone at the meet as a known quantity, so we didn't want to believe that it was stolen. However, with the recent discovery that the Shure cartridge was missing, we've decided to assume the worst.

See below for S/N of stolen HiFiMan HE-X. The item actually belongs to HiFiMan. SuperBAF will be compensating HiFiMan for the lost item (Paypal sent on 3/20/2016). The money will come from our loaner program funds. That's going to hit us a little bit.

I'm a bit disappointed at this loss of items. Specially since I brought one of the HE-Xes in that meet.

I know only a few of the folks that went to that meet, and I trust them. I did not know all folks at the meet though. I personally feel I should have been a lot more careful.

Well evidently Jude found out and used it against us (one of us, I won't say who) to HiFiMan. I know Jude's been pissed at us since least year when several of us (Changstar members) were on the HEK beta. Jude wants to own the entire industry to himself.

It's not that we were trying to hide anything. As you said, people (most) at the meet were trusted, and we figured it would be found in someone's backpack sooner or later. These things happen. It's part of life and no need to blame or take blame. We accepted responsibility, paid for the lost item fair and square, and made things right. That's what matters most.

WHAT? Paying people back for something? what a novel idea.

Seriously though, we'll definitely make things right. I'm really upset that these items walked away. We've had people we trusted before try to pull shady stuff before and we will not let SBAF be that kind of place.

So it wasn't just the HEX but a cartridge as well? Wow... that sucks.

I'd expected the HEX to be an earnest "oops, I mistakenly took this" thing, too...

Yup. We just found out about the cart thing. So have to assume a theft now.

The more troubling thing to me is how closely Jude watches what we do and how he tries to use any kind of information to make sure he and Head-Fi own EVERYTHING.

It never even occurred to me SuperBAF having access to gear before him would make him upset. Had I had known, I would have made sure he or Stillhart or one of his groupies got it first. It's funny because I remember him breaking the press embargo on the TH-X00 too. It's not even about who gets it first!

Jude is a such a piece of shit. There is some other related shit that went down that I can't talk about that pisses me off. When it starts affecting friends...

I like to think we live in a world where disagreements and competition can run parallel to a mutual understanding of eachother's consciousness and humanity. I think all humans have evolved some sort of Angel-on-the-Shoulder that tells them that violating another human's basic rights is wrong. But from this we have sociopaths that emerge. People that only look inwardly and are capable of justifying all sorts behavior to suit their own goals. Whether it's stealing stuff, or just getting people fired from their jobs. Any of the above require a particularly evil leprechaun.

On an unrelated note, Happy Late St. Patrick's Day! What a great CanJam thanks for putting it on Jude!

I just hope there aren't any hard feelings from HiFiMAN. It'd suck for an important company like them to have lost a product to a group they thought they could trust.
It is pretty pathetic that someone would violate the trust of this group and steal from some of the most incredibly genuine people I've talked to. Jason said something in the Schiit Happens story regarding theft, and that's exactly how I feel. Whoever you are, you're an asshole and it doesn't matter that you stole from well-off people. The fact that you stole outweights the circumstances in which the crime was committed. You should be ashamed of yourself.

You could make a rule saying no baggy clothes, jackets or bags inside the meeting room. You can still probably steal the phono cartridge but the headphones would be tougher.

    Real shame that it happend.

Anyone show up to the meet that is not a SBAF member? Assuming everyone there is registered and posts semi-regularly, have we cross checked meet attendees with SBAF members to see if the f**k that stole these items might have dropped off or had less activity since the meet?

Time to hire bouncers and the TSA for SBAF meets. Thanks, asshole!

If there is any hope it's that this was a relatively small event and the list of suspects should be short. They should remain on some sort of suspicion list for a bit of time, years possibly.

No hard feelings! Marv compensated for the headphone.

I probably won't be able to arrange any more loaners. We shall see though...

not having attended the meet, nor used many loaners-
I was surprised the missing headphones were tolerated as not-a-crime for so long. This happened awhile ago IIRC.

    1. Did SBAF have to pay retail pricing to replace these headphones? I sure hope not.

    2. It's obvious that Jude planted a mole at the meet, planned the theft and subsequent extortion against SBAF. Ha!

Every tweet and YouTube post from miniTurd Jude will be met with replies of:
"Jude leaks media embargoes and TH-X00 news."
    Or
"Jude cries if he doesn't get the new gear first."

You know, there is a chance that it was not even a SBAF member at all (I hope not!). It could be the movers who brought in and took out the rental furniture. But at this point, that would be too hard to track.

I think the best thing is if we keep an eye out for sold goods on the market.

Couldn't someone just call the moving company and inquire? Maybe someone's been fired for lifting stuff. On the other hand, it sounds like someone who knew what they were doing. Most people don't steal cartridges or freaky sci-fi looking headphones.

No one has mentioned this, but I remember there was one younger dude who showed up at the meet. I was not familiar with him. Asian descent, maybe 5'8, maybe early-mid 20's. I believe he left a bit early. I'm not sure who invited him or if any one has followed up with him or if he has an account here.
