Do not make the mistake of assuming that someone isn't a thief just because you know them or because they are your friend.

    The human psyche is complicated.

Of all the gear that was on display at that meet I wonder why someone would take that cart and the HEX? There was some REALLY NICE stuff there.

Nope. It was supposed to be a "review unit" anyways.

I have to say that I was soundly dejected last night and did not sleep well. Not just for the theft, but that this incident was used as rationale by a powerful industry person to get someone fired from his job. I also realized that our independent loaner program would take a big hit. These incidents, combined with some other shady incidents of the recent past, made me lose faith in humanity and want to throw in the towel.

However, I woke up this morning to find out that someone had anonymously donated $1500 to cover the loss. Wow, I am speechless and in tears! I am super touched. My faith in humanity and particularly this group has been restored and reinforced. I know that many of you have not only given what you could, but given a little bit more than that.

THANK YOU! YOU GUYS REALLY ARE SUPER BEST AUDIO FRIENDS!

That does suck. Meets are organized by people willing to bring their personal gear for the enjoyment of others. It takes time and effort to plan, and load/set up the equipment for the enjoyment of all. I just don't understand people who steal.

People who steal manage to justify it to themselves. They make up reasons that the people they are stealing from owed them anyway, or wouldn't be negatively affected, or that the stealing was really borrowing (albeit without permission). When confronted, they get defensive, make up all sorts of lame excuses, and blame the victim of the theft as being the aggressor. There's no understanding them. Just best to avoid.

Also, kind of hard to lift an EAR integrated amp or Super Stratus out of the premises without anyone knowing. The cart lifted was semi-rare.

Holy crap! Thank you anonymous! That is so badass!

It's a sad reality that this even happened. We'll have to be more careful about things at the next meet, which is really unfortunate.

Of the "no hard feelings but" variety, if we have an SBAF staff member outright check your shit on the way out, I would not be at all offended.

I'm still relatively new here and wouldn't trust me intrinsically. That said, @velvetx walked me out to my car and helped carry my stuff, so hopefully I'm not suspect in the theft. Even so, I'd be more than happy to have my gear checked in/out at the door like a kid at Chuck E. Cheese's.

I don't want my stuff stolen either.

Now that I have some things worth taking, I'd be pretty upset to lose it.

However hard it is, let's try not to grasp on to these misdeeds, and not have a knee jerk reaction for future meets. We had a white knight come to rescue us (and several other white knights in the past).

It's best to hope the perpetrator(s) are happy with their new found gains. If I could, I'd throw in two silver candlesticks to thieve(s) in hope that this act of generosity would influence them to eventually change their ways. Hmmm, why I am thinking Wolverine in Les Miserables?

A good reason why we are around. Let's fight the good fight!

P.S. I should tell you guys about the incident where one dude was forced to go on his knees, apologize, and beg for forgiveness.

I'm actually pretty nice. I've let people walk away from multi-thousand dollar loans I've given them. What annoys me is that someone keeps poking his head into what we do here which has ZERO bearing on what he does. Maybe the quality of this person's forum content would be better if he concentrated on what he did instead of worrying about whether we were allowed review gear first or allowed to participate in manufacturers' beta programs.

Ah yes, this must be the path where one accepts that in this world, there will always be a few bad recordings.

    Speaking of things getting stolen...

Fang's suitcase was broken into and examined by TSA on this flight to CanJam. A lot of random stuff went missing as well.

He basically picked up his suitcase, noticed it was much lighter and that the zipper locations moved dramatically.
