    Hi everyone,
Has anyone got any experience with the Enigmas from Luis? I've searched around before posting but impressions seem scarce. Looking for a set of orthos to complement my HD800s. I love precise soundstaging and natural timbre. Will be used with a EC Black Widow. How's the build quality? Apologies for any mistakes I'm on my phone for the next week.

I've owned a pair of Enigmas for a while now:

The build quality is excellent and the workmanship on the wood is INSANE!

Soundwise, they are quite the opposite of HD800's (which I also own).
I think Luis' description of the Enigma's as having a "romantic" sound is accurate. They are warm sounding, and have lots of good quality bass. The high end is very smooth and non-fatiguing. Reminds me of lush "tube" sound. That's why the mid range is SO good! I generally prefer more open, airy, elevated highs like Stax (the HD800's are too bright for me though.), so I never thought I would like the Enigma's as much. But I ended up buying them because they just sound so good. I could listen to them all day with any recording and just enjoy the music.

Soundstage is pretty good for a closed headphone, but nothing like the HD800. However, I usually use my Out Of Your Head software, so how well the headphones image is pretty irrelevant. I never really hear much imaging at all in any headphones compared to using Out Of Your Head.

I've used them with the Schiit Lyr 2 and Ragnarok and Vali 1. They benefit from a decent amount of power, so the Lyr 2 and Rag are a good match. I have never heard the Black Widow.

Where are you located? I generally have the Enigma's at any of the shows or meets. Or we could talk about a loaner. PM me.

Are they even still available? I have been trying to contact Luis about either a set of Enigmas or Paradox Slants. No answer either from his web site or a PM on Head-Fi.

To be honest I haven't tried contacting Luis yet. Let me know it you reach him.

I've emailed with him about phones, so maybe try that route. I know he's been very busy lately but send him another note with your interest in the slants/enigmas and hopefully you'll hear back. Super nice guy, just very busy.

Darin was dead on in describing the Enigmas. They are a great headphone, though don't expect them to be the most resolving one.

I use the BW with a Gungnir Multibit and the Enigmas at work and it's a great pairing. The BW does really well with orthos for the most part.

I will be using them with a Yggdrasil/Liquid Glass if I can obtain a set.

If anyone has a pair in Australia or knows a cheap way to ship (doubtful I know) I would love to try them for a few days. Would be happy to provide some kind of security deposit.

Luis includes a really large carrying case with his Enigma/Enigmatic headphones, which will significantly add to the shipping cost.

Someone would have to just send the Enigmas in the cloth bag to save on costs.

Recently picked up some hemo finished Enigmas. They're really effing beautiful. Have a real heirloom feel to them. I kinda like that I probably look like Frankenstein while wearing them. I'll be sure to scare my kid that way, when she's old enough to be scared of such things.

Seriously though, these sound really nice. Not as accurate or resolving or airy and wide as his slants, which are also awesome but different. These feel more musical and warm, while still retaining some neutrality. Nothing jumps out at me super hard, they sound pretty cohesive and involving. Really nice bass, nice sparkly highs without any fatigue or glare, and super sweet mids to my ears. Hats off to Luis, once more.
