@Vansen would be the one to talk to about setting up a loaner tour.

I personally was impressed with the audible difference the iFi SPDIF iPurifier made in combination with my Modi Multibit, which seems more sensitive to jitter from the source than its bigger brothers which I assume have better internal reclocking sections.

Or at least it made the differences between the sound of several different CDPs I had considerably less noticeable than without it. YMMV of course.

The few impressions I've seen of the Pro iDSD so far have been very exciting. But... I have to admit I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the filters and upsampling options. I might be in the distinct minority on this, but I find I like the idea of DACs with zero filter or toggled options in order for there to be a clear "vision" as to what the designer was going for in terms of sonic signature.

I tend to disagree, I like it when a product come with at stock filter when you first turn it on that's the designer sonic signature as you do but I also like to have option If i'm not into that guy's preference.

I can see the benefit of a "house sound" but I believe this is more of an amp thing where there's not a lot of tweaking available except tubes if you don't wanna open the device and take a soldering iron.

I seriously considered a Soekris DAC specifically for that reason. I like that there is a community developing different filters to give users a selection of sound options, and it is kind of in keeping with my appreciation for the open source software movement. In the end I went with the Gungnir because of their reputation and my excellent personal experience with the quality of Schiit products and of course the aesthetics of keeping things matched, but if the 1421 loaner makes it to Canada I really would like to hear the sonic differences a selection of filters makes. I certainly would not be averse to changing DACs if I like what I hear.

It's been to Canada already, I think k4rstar had one by his place at one point this year.

The Yggdrasil is just too big for my audio space so I've also been looking at the Soekris unit as an alternative. If we can get about 90% of the Yggdrasil, that would be great. But that's damn near Gungnir Multibit numbers. Schiit needs to make a smaller Yggdrasil!

I used to wonder why the Yggdrasil was so big, but after watching the build video on Youtube (see the Schiit thread on this site), I can understand. There is a lot of stuff packed into that box!

And rightfully so as there are many combinations to mix and match. But that's how we roll. We provide options. If one doesn't feel like using any other than the core functionality, that's perfectly fine.

We took care of this as well. If no filter is applied, all incoming data is bitperfect. Pro iDSD handles DSD up to 512 and PCM up to 705.6/768kHz natively.

Appreciate the explanation! I'm clearly in the minority here when it comes to the multitude of options.

Any chance you will be supporting Roon as an endpoint via ethernet in the future? I love Roon, and have noticed that folks are using the iDSD Pro with Roon through the USB input from their Roon cores. I know it's also an option to use it via Airplay, but that's limited in bitrate. Being able to use the ethernet input as a Roon endpoint would convince me to give this DAC a shot.

    Sure, our pleasure.

We are aware of how popular Roon is, but this option on our Pro iDSD is anything but easy. We are in contact with Roon crew, we like them a lot (highly likely they like us too!) and all of us look into the matter. But for now it is what it is.

While I really appreciate the option, I regret it's not as simple as on ps audio direct stream junior : download the file on an USB drive plug it in the DAC, switch it on, done.

If you need to buy fancy cables on amazon and open the unit, deal with software with interface made for techies and not customers then I don't consider it a reasonable way to do it unless it's a DIY to begin with and i probably won't bother.

It's not that hard, honestly, and it is way cheaper than any PS Audio DAC.

After living with a Brooklyn DAC+ for a year I finally decided I had to try a Yggdrasil A2. I drank the MQA koolaid and bought the Brooklyn before I joined SBAF. Already ordered and should be here by this weekend. I look forward to writing up a comparison between the Brooklyn DAC+ and Yggdrasil A2. I bought new from Schiit even though they had some B stock units for a $200 savings in the unlikely event I did not bond with the Yggdrasil so I had the 15 day return option. I suspect I will have some used gear listed in the for sale section in a couple of weeks:)

Schiit shipped fast! I have only had the Yggdrasil A2 burning in for 24 hours but am floored by just how good it sounds, and will only get better. Definitely not returning and will start listing some gear for sale later this week.

Why the lonely looking Vali 2 off to the side? I use it for the TV so I don't have to leave my Kenzie (other side of desk) on all day.
