Loaner: Crane Song Solaris DAC

I had no idea it had been so long, this was literally sitting boxed in my apartment for most of the time. Apologies! Should arrive quickly.

Here now - arrived a few hours ago. Might be a day or two before I can find a time slot for measurements.

 

Received from Bob minutes ago. Totally functional. Excited but should have to go back to lab now..

Just want to confirm no signal-related cables (both digital cables and interconnects) included in the package.

 

If I can get squeezed in at the end of the loaner that would be awesome. I'm considering the Solaris so this would be a great opportunity to audition prior to buying.

 

I'm also paging @Josh83 -- he's now shopping ds dac that can complement Yggdrasil and has high interest of this loaner (but worrying if it's too late to join)

 

Packages I received had only DAC in one box and step-up transformer with input and output power cables in the other.

 

EDIT: NVM, just saw that loaners are for Friends only.

If open to additional listeners later on, I would also be interested. If not or I don't quality, no sweat. Will definitely leave feedback on this if I'm included in program.

To clarify further, I'm not looking to buy right now as I'm saving for a DNA Stellaris first (2-3 more months). Then have to decide if I want a Yggdrasil or a currently undecided DS DAC first (will get both, just need to decide which I want first, will buy DAC in summer or fall). If it matters, then after 1st DAC above it will be an SS amp, then the other DAC that I didn't get the first time around, then finally most likely an EC amp (not sure if Af or Studio Jr, depends on how each would complement the Stellaris).

At the end of day, I'd use the analogy of Star wars characters to describe the best dacs money can buy now:

• Convert-2: "Young" Anakin Skywalker, talented, super potentials, maybe too energetic/passionate occasionally.
• Solaris: Mace Windu, strong belief, controlled personality, doubtlessly extremely-well skilled
• Yggdrasil A2: Master Yoda, who knows "force" better than any other jedis.
• X-sabre pro mqa: Obi-Wan Kenobi, "Obi-Wan is a great mentor; as wise as Master Yoda, and as powerful as Master Windu"

 

Thought I'd add that last one in there... just because, you know... the dark side.

Can you make the analogy in reference to Star Trek.

 

Convert-2 is Kirk. Powerful, masculine, self-proclaimed sex God. Doesn’t follow the rules and doesn’t care. But in the end, just not that great.

Yggdrasil/Gungnir Multibit is Janeway. Has a following. Very competent. Maybe a bit shrill. Not subtle.

Solaris is Picard. Quiet, refined, simple on the outside. Deeply competent. Reads Shakespeare when you’re not looking.
