It worked fine when I had the Ember and a nuke...I did not have any luck using the nuke with the Sunrise so I used the smps. I think the switch was flaky when I got but I ended up "fixing" it to always on.

"The power switch on the Sunrise is a weak link. Try one thing before sending it for repair: push in on the switch while flipping it off. Sometimes that contact gets weird and needs to be reseated."

This suggestion from @Luckbad worked for me.

Power switch on sunrise worked fine for me using the stock power supply.

    Budget tube amp loaner impression

    Associated gears
    • Topping DX3 Pro
    • ZMF Ziricote Aeolus (stock flat cable)
Since power nuke didn’t work at all (it was just blinking when everything was connected), both P20 and Sunrise were powered via stock smps.

    P20 (vs DX3)
While its UI needs some work, I have to confess I like its functionality to choose output and input. After getting familiar, UI barely annoyed me. Built quality is pretty good and red chassis looks kinda sexy for its asking price. Not bad at all.

Its sound was pretty similar with DX3’s headphone out. A tad dark as well as lean bass. Impressively clean and clear .. to the extent I don’t expect at this price level. But DX3 resolves better in terms of microdynamics and microdetails. Not much differently though.

Overall, I didn’t hate P20 as much as others. It did certain things well. But it failed to show competitive advantages over DX3 -- possibly applies to every decent budget AIO.

    Sunrise (vs DX3)
With stock power adapter, sunrise had audible power-related noise. Moreover, it has left and right channel imbalance (I double-checked it by comparing to other head amps in the house with Aeolus fixed). Power switch also seems broken (it didn’t work even with stock smps). That said, my general impression of Sunrise wasn’t higher than P20. P20 operated and functioned more reliably.

However, there were several things to like. Sunrise has the same level of resolution as DX3, but with a little more involving nature and pleasing smoothness. Its tonality resembles P20 but it sounds like Sunrise is way more refined.

I don’t like the fact this amp needs additional modification (or extra box) to get the sound right.

It’s not a bad amp, but its asking price ($250-290) is pretty uncomfortable to me.

    Conclusion
Honestly either couldn’t wow me. No ‘one more song’ effect during the evaluation. I’m blaming Schiit (specifically Magni 3, Jotunheim, and Lyr 3).
