Loaner: Mic Calibrator

very tempting, how much time will need to be set aside to set this all up and test a mic - just being pragmatic

I could go for getting in on this, did it before, but changed my measurement system since then.

If costs & logistics permit this to come to Canada, I'm interested. Vancouver BC.

 

Will send the mic calibrator out early next week after final calibration check against Bruel & Kjaer 4231.

I would suggest multiple calibration runs over several days and observe equipment drift, if any.

Could each of the participants post the microphone mfg / model to be used for system calibration? From that I can determine what additional materials I might need to send for a good fit between the mic and calibrator. See Using a microphone calibrator for why that matters.

@dBel84 : what amount of time do you feel would help you be successful with calibrations?
Due to the unusual nature of this loaner time may be more flexible. Participants should feel free to ask questions after reading the basics: Using a microphone calibrator

Only requirements are to affirm calibrator is turned off and foam piece put back into place maintaining off position during shipping and make a post about your calibration experience.

I have a minidsp umik-1 and a custom headphone measurement rig using the guide somewhere on this forum to make one

 

Just trying to figure out how many hours I need to set it up. But am assuming this could be done in an evening.

 

Correct. However once you have it figured out you should repeat over several days to determine system variance. Also note gain settings as if they are changed the system becomes uncalibrated once again.

 

Creeping crud abating. Performed final calibration check against Bruel & Kjaer 4231 mic calibrator with a Josephson c550h mic. N9 mic calibrator shipped with output adjusted to within 0.3 dB ; slightly higher output. On its way to @spwath

 

I got the thing on Monday, have been busy though with 3 tests this week, but no class tomorrow so I can use it then, and get it out then or next monday

 

You have your priorities correct. Good luck with tests. Take the time necessary to acquire the data you wish with the calibrator. That goes for everyone on the tour. You've done this before so it will probably go quickly.

minidsp mic was pretty close to calibrated already, just changed it a little bit to be more exact, but pretty good. Now ill be sure I am getting accurate SPL readings with it.

Ill send out the calibrator to @dBel84 tomorrow once I get the address.

 

Will be curious to see how close mine is.

Calibrator arrived yesterday. Plan to measure today and ship in the next day or so, unless people want me to hold off until after the holidays.
