Nah, always feeling the supplied 14VAC transformers were somewhat wimpy I am replacing mine with this bad boy:


But the input for this rather substantial transformer is 460 VAC so I must rewire my house accordingly. To achieve the most pristine AC available it will be necessary to contract with the local power company to provide a 7.2 KV feed for the intended personal substation for my 480 / 460 V distribution:


The results will both be expensive and hazardous to everyone's mental health, but there be an extraordinarily stiff AC supply for the few milliwatts my HD800 requires.

 

Two Vidars in bi-quad bridged mode will give you much better clarity.

Why not make it more reasonable, and power a magni 3 with an old useless magni 2?

 

I like all of these options so far.

 

Magni 2 has +/-15V rails while Magni 3 has +/-17V. So not really enough voltage to get there.

Although you could use both channels with the other out of phase to create the necessary voltage.

 

This is where a Crown DC-300A excels. Can drive motors directly.

 

C'mon guys, if Powersoft amps can be used to drive the magnetic acceleration coils of the Large Hadron Collider, surely we can drum up a little bit of Schiit to power a headphone amp.

Also, what if you replace the Vidar with a tube amp and the Sys with a Saga? How does the sound change?

 

I almost want the Magni 3 now. The upgraditis virus has a cousin called side-graditis.

I mean I can daisy chain it to the Fulla 2...

 

I just got purchased some HD650's and a Magni 3 do i need a DAC as well or should the DAC on my Mobo be fine.just getting into this whole thing so dont tear me apart lol

 

Typically a standard motherboard would be less than ideal. Something as simple as a Modi 2 for $99 would be much better and stacks with your new Magni 3. Your new 650 deserves a good chain.

 

I have an Asus ROG Strix Z270F mobo which has the ROG SupremeFX S1220A Audio chipset if that tells you anything. Thanks for the quick response btw.

P.S. would it be better to just get Modi Multibit DAC and not have to upgrade later?

 

In short, yes. And mother board chip sets mean next to nothing. They're the reason outboard dacs exist.

 

I was going to go into a little speech on how fancy marketing / mobo sound is pretty much polished shit smeared on an advertising label, but that sums it up nicely.

 

That's what I do at my lab, since the Fulla 2 doesn't have enough current driving capabilities to drive the Aeon.

Now I'm in the process of talking myself out of getting the Modi Multibit for the lab... I mean, what would I do with poor Fulla Schiit?

 

Just got the Magni 3 today. This has got to be one of the best bang for your buck audiophile purchases. It just sounds outstanding and is a clear, though not enormous, upgrade over the amp in the iDSD BL. I used a dBa meter to match the volumes and did some A/Bing. There is better separation, detail, impact, soundstage...really every category of the sound is improved. What is most notable in the comparison is the improved detail in the upper frequencies. Well done Schiit.
