Grado listener reporting in. PS500 sounds mighty fine from low Z jack. HD58x is a bit dull in comparison. I used it in the high Z jack however.

PS500 bass sounds clear and not at all mushy or one note to me. Overall, I would describe this amp as revelatory. It’s surprising to hear what I have been missing.

Listening to Lateralus/Disposition/Reflection was a truly emotional experience.

Edit: Would someone with a pre prod unit post a closeup of the output board wiring? I’d like to mod mine to be usable as a pre-out.

 

Where can I buy the thin iron banding to wrap the power transformer? I have a ZDT that's humming, so I want to move the toroid forward and wrap it.

 

Let me know if you find this, also would like to wrap my SW51+ and been trying to find some for months lol.

Zampotech said just finding a broken torodial and unwinding it, because it's just transformer steel wound tight. Another person told me a 5cm thick steel pipe worked awesome and was $4.

 

I can confirm this stuff works and very easy to apply. I think it is available on Amazon.

 

You essentially just wrap the torodial transformer with it right? No need to shield the other transformers with it?

 

Correct. just wrap it around the front transformer and secure it with zip ties around the circumference.

My white dot ZDT Jr produces no sound on the high output. I have swapped newer tubes around with no luck. What else can be at play here?

Hey all, first post and it's reviving an old thread.... sorry about that!

I have SN 375 with the white dot that I purchased used. I noticed some weak power to the rear tubes when I got it and have tightened the sockets and power is no longer an issue, but I do have a low hum in the left channel. It's only noticeable to me when nothing is playing, so it hasn't been a huge issue, but would like to potentially solve it. Problem is, I was under the impression that the white dot serial numbers had a fix already applied, is this not the case?

 

That's correct. And I guess you have to assume that the person who sold you the amp didn't paint the white dot on it himself.

Have you tried swapping tubes left to right, and input cables left to right, to see whether the hum moves to the other channel?
