In case anyone was curious. In a room that is 70 F the Modi MB case is 87 F.

Any idea how long it takes from power on to equilibrate at 87 °F?

At that point I had it on for a day. Temp was taken with my IR gun which I cant really automate. Although I'm curious and bored so I'll check.

All those temperature measurements I took in the tube warm-up time thread were done manually. It's a pain but the only way unless you have deeeep pockets for the automated stuff.

I was thinking more along the lines of data logging with an Arduino or RPi. I have a thermocouple that I can stick to the surface and then program a routine. I'm trying to learn Python so it would be a fun project.

Ah, yes a thermocouple into a DMM with logging capability would do it. I can do that with the Keysight / Agilent / HP 34461A. Higher accuracy is obtained using a FLIR E4 when measuring tubes. So manual methodology is still in my future with IR measurements. If you make the Arduino or RPi do write it up, take pictures and post.

I'd love to have a FLIR but I think even the cheap breakout boards are around $200. One day...

Modi is turned off and cooling down. Science project is coming

Would someone here be so kind as to give me a heads-up when the black Modi Multibit is back in stock?

I'm in the market, but they're never up when I check...

@atomicbob - took a bunch of measurements spaced 5 min apart. Will do a bunch of plots but the basic gist is that it reached 87-91f after 40min in a 73f room.

However that was in isolation. With a Vali 2 stacked on top I found that it would reach 101f.

Has anyone compared the Modi Multibit to the Dac in the idsd Black Label? I have the Black Label now and I'm trying to determine if the Modi Multibit would be an upgrade or not. I'd pair this with a Jot. (A unique pairing to SBAF, I'm sure.)

First Impression of the modibit compared to the gov2 Inf.: the modibit seems better just from memory of what it sounds like(put it to the side when the modibit came in and didn't touch it again. It seems that the soundstage has widened but nothing seems more distant, as in there's no loss in detail from the instruments being further away. This is from the modibit being cold and using the SE on the gov2 into bravo ocean tube amp my gf got me for christmas:)

will update my post with impressions as it warms up and a more direct comparison so I don't clutter up the thread. I'm also waiting on a TRRS to XLR to do a better comparison but it seems single ended, the Modi Multibit wins easy.

Hi again guys. Still enjoying my Modi Multibit greatly - however, I have one issue that is a bit on the technical side...

So, when I connect my Stax setup through the Modi Multibit, everything is working perfectly. No noise, no nothing. But when I connect my DIY SE amplifier where I run my other headphones through, I get varying degrees of noise from my USB port in my computer. Its not absolutely super terrible, but on some headphones like my JVC HP DX 1000 its incredibly annoying - and really, any background noise is really annoying when doing critical listening, obviously.

So, since this only happens with my DIY amp, I suspect that it might be something in there doing it? It's a very powerful amp, much more powerful than the 252s stax amp.

I was already considering getting the Eitr eventually, but if the Eitr could fix this issue i.e eliminate the noise before sending the signal through coax, I would hurry up that purchase considerably.

TL;DR: Will Eitr reduce noise from my motherboard? I use a jitterbug + a 20$ USB 2.0 cable. This is only an issue on my desktop computer, not my laptop.

    Hissing? Humming?

Since you haven't tried to describe the noise at all, it could be anything, ground loops, dirty VBUS etc..

The USB on the Modi Multibit is pretty bad, anyway - just there as a box ticking exercise, so it's worth moving away from it in any case.

This issue was present on the dragonfly as well via RCA to 3.5.

The sound is high frequency hissing. It gets worse when my processor is working, i.e when I move the mouse and stuff.

@AudioThief Have you tried an externally powered USB hub? Sounds like the (internal) power supply to the USB ports isn't particularly well filtered. Could also be an artifact from a shared clock. Or your mouse is a source of noise. If any of your USB ports are on a separate controller to the integrated one it can also help to ensure that the mouse is on one and the affected device (Modi Multibit) is on the other.
