Unloosen? Try debolting which I believe is Quebecois for the same-- had the opportunity to come across it because the internet is propelling us all towards inevitable cultural homogeneity and everyone wants their native aspects to dominate the field somehow.

Also, much as I feel vaguely sorry that you had the misfortune of having to deal with a literal trashfire at some unspecified point in the past (my spell checker does not recognise "trashfire" but I insist on using it nonetheless because such is bull-headedness) this just made me giggle. The universe has great comedic timing it seems.

I thought trashfire was when people who are not important to either side get killed in modern warfare!

I can almost live with debolting! But it would have to paired with un-nuting.

Hey, just picked up an original Modi Multibit :)
Even though it sounds good through my modded HD580 + THX789, I find its bass a bit uncontrolled (less texture) for my liking and I find the stage a bit congested compared to what I´m used to. (recent dacs: Khadas and D50S).
Its my first r2r dac, maybe I should listen more, or I should just try the updated MD218 chip - firmware, but I´m not sure how big of a improvement it will bring.
Still, the problem is, MD218 is out of stock in EU, does any of you have any information wheter Schiit even still makes them? Emailing support didn´t help.

Don´t get me wrong, I´m not saying I don´t like it, but the differences in openness, microdetail and separetion were significant, when comparing it against Audiolab M-DAC via friend´s vintage pair of B&W´s. Sure, one could say it was an unfair comparison, but the M-DAC is far from perfect imho.

I'm still loving my version 2 Modi Multibit. Anyone else still use one or have you moved on,?

Is there some source material sample rate at which the megacomboburrito filter is bypassed?

Pretty sure it's x4 oversampling. Don't know if USB MMB will take 176/192.

If there is any indication, folks loved the tweaked MMB at the Texas meet. I should offer to mod the MMBs for a fee.

Again, from the Modi MB and Bifrost MB FAQ's...

    What’s this about a non-oversampling (NOS) mode?
For 176.4kHz and 192kHz input sample rates, Bifrost Multibit passes the music right along—no digital filter, no oversampling. Have fun! Upsample lower-rate music with another algorithm, and compare to our “comboburrito” filter.

So yes, both the Bifrost MB and Modi MB are 4x oversampling. No digital filter for 176.4 or 192. The other MB Schiit DACs are 8x.

I'm still using mine (now 1656 modded) and very happy with it. Waiting on the Modi E loaner to see how far ahead I am (or not).

Will do op amp mod for free on one Modi MB or Bifrost MB to the first person who asks via PM.

I think a lot of people would be more than happy to not have to do SMD micromachines soldering on their own. I assume we'd have to supply our own opamps?

My rate is ludicrously high but yes.

Kidding aside, it was actually a very kind offer. Respect.

Didn't know your modded MMB was at the show! Would have loved to listen to it. Still kicking myself for not asking for a listen to the SBAF modded Bifrost 1 when @CEE TEE offered, or did anyone actually get to hear it at all?

I didn't actually enjoy the Bifrost 2/64 stacked with the Jot 2 as much as I thought I would, but if it was a MMB that was paired with the Vali 2 in the boardroom, it's a great DAC re: price-to-performance imo. I figured I would hear more of a family resemblance with the Schiit Multibit DACs, but the Bifrost 2/64 sounded—to my unfamiliar and untrained ears—to be more... different sounding than the MMB and the Gungnir A1 I heard in the Nitsch room. Caveat lector: Please inject salt into your veins with these superficial, mostly useless impressions, the Texas meet was my first time listening to any Schiit R2R DAC, and they were all with different amps.

Modi Multibit v2 has been my main DAC for awhile now. I've got some good synergy going on with it and SW51+ w/ stock tubes and LSN HD 800. I'd love to mod mine, but won't do it until I have a second one - as I'm in a good place now and don't want to shift anything without being able to instantly go back to where I am at here.

Still using mine and I doubt its going anywhere until I upgrade to something like an Asgard or Jot, if I ever do. It would be nice to get better USB like Unison somehow, so I don't have to stack so many little boxes on my desk though.
