Did anyone see Fassbender in Macbeth? I want to see that.

Also, The Assassin, the Chinese movie set in the end of the Tang dynasty, was good with interesting pacing.

Fassbender is great in everything. Just saw him in Steve Jobs.

You guys should check out this movie The Guest starring Dan Stevens from Downton. It's a thriller that is an homage to john carpenter, and lots of other 80s things.

Saw and enjoyed The Assassin very much. Hou is probably my favorite director. It's his most visually stunning film out of the 14 that I've seen (A City of Sadness being my favorite).

"The Martian" surprised me. Good story, unpredictable yet somewhat realistic protagonist, great script and a soundtrack that works wonderfully.

If you do not sing "I Will Survive" at the end your feet will at least tap along. That is how good this film was. (You will appreciate Disco...)

That song is super high on the awesome scale; I can't resist busting out some disco moves whenever I hear it. Oh, and I'm good. Yeah.

I was pleasantly surprised by this one as well. Normally space movies bores me to death so I usually try to avoid them but The Martian was well done. Worth a watch.

Speaking of space movies, after the discovery of gravitational waves a week or two ago I immediately went out and bought Interstellar. Only $10, so why not?

I enjoyed it so much more the 2nd time around. It kind of took me by surprise, to be honest.

I think one of its best attributes is how it really takes time to let the story breathe and develop. A bit of a rarity these days.

+1 for The Guest. Don't read about it. Just watch it. Worth it to not know anything. If you like it, check out "You're Next" by the same director/writer.

just finished this. i don't watch much stuff anymore and while my g/f is mostly the movie and game buff i don't dabble into much since it bores me easily but, i do like finding weird crap a lot of times.

it's basically weird movie with old disney type of art and while concept is simple, there is good underlying meaning to the movie itself on how everything is today. i liked the art style and the music was really great. didn't flow well in the very simple story but, at least the animation was cool and music matched perfectly.

i liked it a lot. another weird ass movie is...

been forever on remembering this movie but, it was a pretty trippy and interesting movie that i liked a good amount. probably watch it again to refresh my memory on it since last time i watched it was when i was running on fumes from lack of sleep so wasn't best state of mind but, did remember liking it.

can easily find these movies on kissanime. well, that's where i watched them. use the site since g/f into anime and watches the stuff a lot but, i use it once in awhile but, most of it is like popular stuff and crap i don't get into but, have found some interesting weird stuff on the site before.

If you guys enjoyed the Martian... you owe it to yourself to try the audiobook. Hilarious and perfectly narrated. You can find it at Audible.

If you like stuff in that vein and don't mind a full series, look into Kaiba. Mind Game is also another movie that might be to your liking.

For the horror buffs in here, I watched the Witch the other weekend. I had been eager to watch for for a long time (since I'm a big slow burn horror fan), and it was very enjoyable. One of the few recent horror movies that does dread to my liking, and the acting is fantastic.

Good man. Top-tier weird-ass anime right there. They're very, very weird, but also classically good. And if you like Mind Game, you will likely enjoy Tekkonkinkreet, as well.

I have seen a lot of weird anime over the years, but I'm drawing a blank. Maybe Angel's Egg (another one of those high-concept, arthouse deals.) All in all a strange movie... ...just not in an immediate way like the ones above. It's the brooding sort of strange. There's next to no dialogue and very little music. Just a lot of symbolism and visual storytelling. I wouldn't call it a 'good' anime, but it's interesting and there's nothing else really like it. It's one of those things that gradually draws you in and randomly shuts off parts of your brain.

And then for a, quick dose of modern anime weirdness, there is always ME!ME!ME! The actual short starts at 1:30.

Tom Hardy is an incredible actor. I've yet to see a movie with him that I didn't like. The one about the Kray brothers was sick.

Another great movie with Hardy, The Drop. Awesome performance from him and Gandolfini. Slow movie, but very enjoyable with some really great camera work. Ending was interesting, and can be interpreted in different ways.

I just saw Free State of Jones. Based on a true story, so that's always good. Heavy stuff, but appropriate given this guy's life story was, if anything, a lot heavier. Matthew McConaughey and the supporting actors were all good.

Led to family history discussion with my dad. Had relatives on both sides of the civil war, actually fighting against each other in the same battle (must've had bad aim, since they both lived).

    P.S. Zootopia was great, takato.

Nice. I love true stories (as long as they are generally true to the actually story). I'll check it out.
