I saw Incredibles 2 last night and thought it was wonderful.

The characters are super heroes but the superheroing is a backdrop. The actual superhero plotline is simple and predictable, but that's really not what the movie is about. The movie focuses more on the relationships between a family and friends and, I thought, did so in a really nice way. The handling of Mr. Incredible especially was really great. I appreciated seeing a movie that was able to portray strong female character/s without resorting to making the male characters around them out to be dopes. This is especially nice to see out of a Disney movie (Looking at you TLJ).

In a lot of places this is a Very visually attractive movie, beautifully designed, and was also one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while.

    Thumbs up from me!

To shift pace a bit, just watched Punisher S01 and I have to say... WOW. Simply WOW. And the same story goes for Preacher, albeit less so.

Punisher and season 1 of Jessica Jones are the only 2 worth watching, IMO. The Purple Man is a twisted bastard and I love it, but what can you expect when the best Dr. Who ever plays your antagonist. (I'm going to catch flak for that comment, I bet.)

DD was... meh, ok I guess. Vincent D'Onofrio made that entire season work, which doesn't speak well of all the other storytelling that goes on IMO.

Luke Cage just drags on and on after that thing happens to Cottonmouth. (Trying not to spoil anything here.) Luke Cage season 2 was a snooze fest.

Iron Fist / Defenders... I'm at a loss for words on how bad they were.

That's my take on them, anyway.

Iron Fist sucks ballz. I really mean it. It. Sucks. Ballz.

DD drove me nuts. But it's not as bad as Iron Fist. Which is not like a major accomplishment.

Luke Cage is indeed a drag, but I considered superior to DD by a shit ton.

Jessica Jones is better than Luke Cage, but she still was a pain in the butt.

The Punisher is were it's at.

Gong back to Iron Fist, he reminds me of this:

I liked DD1, and JJ1 and LC1 in a lot of spots. I ran out of gas on JJ2 and IF1 was a write off. The Defenders was background noise that I didn't love or hate for what it was. I've cancelled Netflix as there just isn't enough good content for me to keep it.

Luke Cage season 1 is really good though, and not because of Luke Cage. He is surrounded by strong supporting cast: Cottonmouth, Mariah, and Pop. Luke Cage himself is rather boring. I'd take Cottonmouth over him. Even Bushmaster is a more interesting persona.

Absolutely not, though I have thoughts... :p

Taking the little one to see Incredibles 2 today and fully expect to have a good time.

My more recent film was The Florida Project. Very well done and absolutely heart breaking.

Anyone watched 'Hereditary' yet? Pretty good horror movie. I watched a great deal of horrors since I was a kid. So, storyline was a bit predictable, but acting is really good, especially Toni Collette.

Best horror movie I watched recenty is still 'Annabelle: Creation (2017)'. Anybody who loves getting scared shitless like me should watch that.

I didn't like Hereditary, the buildup was just too long. I wish the whole movie was more like the last 30 minutes.

Anyway I saw Sicario 2 and it was pretty good! No spoilers but if anything it's even more violent than the first. thumbs up

I saw Wind River tonight. Pretty good. 8/10.

It's a movie where Hawkeye and the Scarlet Witch pretend to be regular humans and solve crimes in Wyoming. It's cold there.

    I liked it.

    Horrid.

My son and I had a great time because we started to make funnies out of it.

EDIT: The honest trailer below really nails it:

Note to self: Anything that Michael Bay touches turns to poop. It boils down to nonsensical hysterics with loads of explosions, random yelling, and gratuitous heroic songs. Rent when bored to make fun at it.

Where the hell did Quintessa came from? What is this "staff" bullshit? Wasn't Cybertron created by the "All-spark"? Alright. The "staff" is awesome. It is to be protected at all costs. So Viviane readily hands it over to Bad Optimus? Why is Cybertron sort of green? Worlds crash. Literally. Camera angle from space shows world collisions that should result in teraton like nuclear blasts and mass extinction events. Camera angle on ground shows a bit of light fires here and there with some dumb asses hanging on anything they can grab for dear life. This makes the worst of the SW movies look like they can't do no wrong. Man, my son and I were making all sorts of funnies on this monumental piece of shit.

This movie is all about Anthony Hopkins demonstrating that mouth opening failures like this cannot touch his career. Bastid.

MI6 was a damn good action film.

It was on course for being THE great action film for me, but the last 1/4-ish of the film kinda put the brakes on that. The action sequences are just incredible here. The cinematography is next level stuff, in the sense that I've not quite seen anything like this before. The film score by Lorne Balfe was tremendous. There's a very obvious resemblance in flavor to TDKR, the Zimmer-esque touch.

But the ending... well the film is a fairly gruelling 2.5 hours long. Dare I say it could have benefited from an extra 15 minutes or so? The film tethers on the edge of (though not quite hitting) an over-convoluted plot that could well have done with some breathing space to unravel, and the rushed ending was what eventually put it over the brink. Pacing suffered because of this as well.

The ending itself was strangely 'straightforward' and a notch less exciting as compared to the rest of the film. Just a tad anticlimactic I guess. It also somewhat resembled a cliffhanger leading to a next episode - a number of loose ends and loose character arcs that should have been better (or at least more delicately) resolved.

Other than that, there were several flickers of shoddy script-writing and editing, but that's all really.

All in all, an extremely enjoyable film that is equally as good as it is a 'what could have been'.
