I absolutely agree. Personally, I have really enjoyed most of the comic book movies that we have gotten over the past several years, but the villains are always tacked on like afterthoughts (really only there to serve as plot devices). Daredevil is completely different. The show is as much about Kingpin and the Punisher as it is about Daredevil himself.

Punisher Warzone is the best Punisher. When Titus Pullo punisher kills the Jamaican crackhead with the heat-seeking missile...

Given the chance, Ray Stevenson kicks serious ass.

Okay. I watched Batman vs. Superman.

Spoilers and a short rant to follow.

It was both alright (because my expectations of modern films are so f'ing low), and terribad (because who am I kidding?). Why was Batman shooting guns?

And, the entire story was underpinned by immaturity. Why did Batman fight Superman? Because Batman jumped to conclusions. Why did Superman fight Batman? Because he couldn't bear to turn the other steel cheek and focus on saving his mother. I know immaturity is status quo these days, but why is it being infused into well-established characters? They both have thousands upon thousands of comic book pages establishing them as the moral and intellectual standards of man/Kryptonian-kind.

And I know Batman doesn't have any superpowers, but there's one thing metahuman about him: his ability to plan. This almost inhuman precision and infallibility in anticipating moves and preparing contingencies. The suckage of his judgement in this movie can't be understated. He's basically a blundering muscle-head Bat idiot.

I close with, why was he shooting guns again?

Yupp - that movie was painful to watch. The writing was atrocious and focused on completely the wrong things. And then wonder woman shows up because why not right? And the film ends with Aquaman? Is that supposed to be a joke or something? Jesus.

That being said I actually liked Ben as Batman, which is somewhat surprising I must admit. But apparently Ben is a big fan and is working on a new Batman film coming out 2017/2018. Could be interesting.

Maybe Superman watched Hollywoodland, which might explain his willingness to brawl.

Feeling pretty down lately and thinking of going on a movie binge. Haven't been keeping up with the latest offerings though.

Any recommendations out there for good films? Most genres works for me (I'm living all alone nowadays so maybe not horror). Nothing too artsy either - definitely not in the mood for that kinda stuff.

I'm talking about 15-20 films per week stuff here, so feel free to suggest anything.

    @muse , Genre films, ok...
Film Noir: Double Indemnity: Raymond Chandler, Billy Wilder script.
The Big Heat: Fritz Lang and a great performance by Lee Marvin
White Heat: James Cagney is amazing.
In A Lonely Place: Bogart shows us how its done
Point Blank: Done after the heyday of Noir, but John Boorman plus Lee Marvin equals bonkers.

Let me know and hope your spirits lift!

Oh, and watch Singin in the Rain

Some movie suggestions to cheer you up.
Dancer in the Dark - a woman slowly going blind saves money to give her daughter an operation to save her sight from the same disease she has but goes to jail for murder. It's a musical!

The Road - after a nuclear apocalypse a man and his son wander the dark ash covered landscape learning not to trust any other people and witnessing the depths to which humankind sinks. Cute kid!

Me Before You -. A vivacious young nurse gives a paralyzed wealthy man a new lease on life. So he slightly delays his decision to die before his disease progresses to the point where he can't legally make the choice. A romance!

His movie prior to Dancer in the Dark, Breaking the Waves, is also a tough one to get through.

I'd add Requiem for a Dream while we're on the hard to watch, but really excellent movie kick.

Thanks for the recommendations. Will check them out.

I actually caught this and thought it was good mix of depressing + uplifting.

I actually watched this for the first time about 2 weeks back. Geez it's probably the second most depressing film I've ever seen (behind Schindler's List). Terrific all round though.

Schindler are Requiem are the kind of movies that really move you, but maybe too much. I have both, but seeing 'em once is plenty.

Fargo, LA Confidential, Goodfellas, Big Lebowski and Empire Strikes Back are the exact opposite, I can watch them anytime. Especially when hungover. Great movies that don't make me feel like shit.

Just saw Straight Outta Compton. I'm a big fan of Dr Dre's beats (not Beats) & production and basically knew story going in. The young actors did a fine job and the story was told pretty well. Saying that, I still enjoy this doc about the band much more. I'm a big fan of documentaries!:

Cheers. Some stuff on here I've wanted to watch for a while now but kinda forgot about them till now.

Read the synopsis for all of them and they all seem really interesting. (I see that you're a big fan of Linklater's films)

Yeah, Linklater is one of my favorite writer/directors. I've been following him for years and years.

I cannot recommend this enough, no matter how I try:

Worth a look, if it's on your local Netflix-alike. Apologies for the awful 240p trailer!
