I have not seen most of these. I like your inclusion of Under the Skin (it's higher on my list), Blade Runner 2049 and The American especially since I thought it was very underrated, though understandable given it's slow and "old fashioned" back story telling and pacing.

edit: of your top nine, I have only seen Logan and I am not sure I would rate it as I did not find its psychology convincing enough.

I thought Logan was pretty overrated. Somber tone, OK... but the story struck me as corny.

I thought the way he died in that movie was total bullshit, but I liked the first 90% of the movie so much I can look past it.

Logan made my top 10 because for me it's flat out the best comic book movie of the decade, possibly of all time. And considering how low that genre can sink, that's a huge achievement, so it gets the 7 spot. A list is just someone's personal soapbox anyway. Don't take it too seriously.

Wait Colt, are those movies in order by most favorite? Or are they just 100 of your favorite in no particular order?

Good to see Wind River get a nod! It was a really good super hero movie too. I'm pretty sure this movie takes place right before Avengers Infinity War. I love how Scarlet Witch was all like "No, I'm just a normal human in the FBI, haha" and Hawkeye was like "LOLZ, yeah me too", and they go all Nancy Drew on the bad guys solving crimes and stuff.

    That's a joke, btw.

Wind River is a good movie. Watch it.

Kids & I were super bored. Not much to see in theaters but SW. So we saw it.

Expectations were very low. And perhaps because of that we liked it.

Seems like a complete bypass of the previous 2 abysmal episodes. This episode could easily have be broken down into the full new trilogy and work better. The episode is not w out severe issues, but it is enjoyable.

when you are not bored- could you perhaps over emphasize the effect of a fictional Star Wars universe on your life as a teen, and how it manifests itself now in adulthood? or write some high quality fan fiction related to characters which you relate to on a midichlorian level yet were underserved by Hollywood marketing movie makers?
    TIA and all my respect,

Watched Star Wars today. After I came home I read a imdb review. It said that it was like watching a 2 hour trailer.
I think thats a perfect description for it. It felt rushed. The worst modern SW movie by far.

    2/10

I would have been happy if they skipped 7&8 and just spread this one out. It felt like a story originally meant to be a mini series with one episode per arc, then they realized whoops gotta do it all in one shot instead. There were a couple snippets that felt like they could have generated some actual meaning and capacity for the audience to care, but instead they were just magical space MacGuffins to shove the story along before you could catch your breath.

RoS was originally meant to be split into two films. That was Abrams' original plan and the only reason he signed on. Word has been leaking now that the movie's been out a while (you should see John Boyega's recent twitter rants), that Disney royally fucked Abrams, and that he's devastated over the whole thing.

Apparently after Disney balked at two films (God knows why), Abrams wanted a 3 hour movie. I believe he was trying his best to undo the damage done by Last Jedi and give a fitting end to the saga. But (apparently) Disney chopped the film to bits in the editing room, made him reshoot a bunch of shit, and removed stuff that gave more context to alot of the film's WTF moments... and that's why it feels like a 2.5 hour sizzle reel. Oh, and Abrams hated the Reylo bullshit/kiss but Disney wanted it.

I'm under no delusion there is some kind of brilliant film buried under the rubble if only JJ was allowed free reign (he's not a great filmmaker), but I also don't believe the end result is what JJ was after. It really does feel like a Frankenstein monster of half assed ideas that would've worked better with a longer cut or spread out over two films. There is already a "release the JJ cut" thing trending on twitter.

You could have split that movie 100 different ways and it still would have been a turd. I just watched 'Hobbs & Shaw' tonight and that was a monumentally better written and more enjoyable movie, really. The new Disney Executives truly just don't get Star Wars, or they don't care

For me to have Zero interest in watching a new release SW film is surreal, that's how much of a mess these new trilogy movies have been.

Not a Star Wars fan. They lost me after the first 3 movies. I think I saw a couple after that but they just lost me. A new Spaceballs type movie is well overdue. Or maybe the next Star Wars should be directed by Tarantino or Tim Burton to really elevate the mindfuck factor. I'd watch that.

I just binge watched all three John Wick movies on New Years day. The first one was pretty good. The last two had their merits but kinda slacked off and became borderline comedic at times. I want to know what Keanu Reeves does to keep in shape. Some of the fight scenes made me think of my kids playing Dance Dance Revolution. I should read the books. There's probably a lot of info about the rules and history of the organization that was glossed over in the films.

I stumbled across this today which seems to detail a lot of what you mentioned:

Ha. I won't argue with that. But I'm one of the few who actually liked Force Awakens. Regardless of the heavy borrowing from A New Hope, it was a solid beginning that setup a potentially interesting trilogy. And then Last Jedi happened...

I think the trilogy's biggest crime is that it isn't really about anything. The other two trilogies had a pretty obvious thematic skeletal framework. I'm not sure what the overall theme is here other than lightsabers and space battles are cool to look at it. Maybe that's all Disney cared about.

I don't personally need Star Wars to have a message, but a coherent plot would have been a plus.

Saw 1917 today. Competently made, definitely watchable. Doesn't suck at all, but not at all epic either .
