Sometimes Beauty is a too weak word for something beyond your intensity level...Like falling from a plane without parachute....

    Holocaust Remembrance Day

My Step-Grandmother was in the camps. A beautiful woman, I shudder to think how she survived. I remember visiting her in France, when I was a child. She was always jittery, and of course there was the tattoo on her arm. Forty years after the war, still hiding food. This piece is popular, but still hits...

I’ve always been partial to Ryan Adam’s cover versus the original, with this darker version evoking more emotion (at least for me). There are some other great emotional songs on Ryan Adam’s Love Is Hell album.

Going a little older school, nascent grunge (pre Nirvana Nevermind), I’ve always loved Mother Love Bone.

A great piece of formless menace. Think Vangelis/ Jarre on LSD/ steroids. The setup is the Blade Runner fighting a next-generation Replicant. I can also picture Cthulu rising from R’yleh to this music. The first 1:45 is ‘Mombassa’ style, an urgent beat. After that, massive waves of decaying synths. The whole soundtrack is best listened to without the Elvis or Sinatra pieces. It does lack the cohesion of the original Blade Runner soundtrack, but there are a lot of good passages here.

I first heard this played on my way home from the hospital where I had left my best friend in the world, my wife. She had just been through cancer surgery. About 20 years ago now; it has turned out well, though we didn't know it would back then.

The top of the lot vibrationist Walt Dickerson plays with the prodigious Sun Ra on pianio or harpsichord in this underrated, less known, imaginative piece of jazz that exceed musically many others... First order musicianship... And yes totally haunting, then better after many listening sessions...
