One day I was cleaning this LP and dropped it hard and awkward onto the ground. The fall put a dent deep into the grooves on Fishing Bird. Now whenever I hear this record I think about slamming vinyl into the ground and it adds an extra layer of haunted anxiety.

Ha, I have to credit Robert for introducing me to the first two here...

Nick Drake > Pink Moon > Things Behind the Sun has to be mentioned…

Daughter > If You Leave > Smother
    I'm wasted, losing time
    I'm a foolish, fragile spine
I want all that is not mine
I want him but we're not right
In the darkness I will meet my creators
And they will all agree, that I'm a suffocator
    I should go now quietly
For my bones have found a place
    To lie down and sleep
Where all my layers can become reeds
All my limbs can become trees
All my children can become me
    What a' mess I leave
    To follow
In the darkness I will meet my creators
They will all agree, I'm a suffocator
    Suffocator
    Oh no
I'm sorry if I smothered you
I sometimes wish I'd stayed inside
    My mother
    Never to come out

    Oh hell yes.

There's a lot of American slavery/civil-rights history that I just never knew. Partly not being American, and partly, well, just ignorance I guess. Don't know how long I knew the song before I knew the meaning.

(Of course, these are the times to be catching up on a lot more stuff, and I am.)

This one always weirds me out, especially towards the end. Geogaddi as a whole is pretty alien and unsettling. Just... all of the sounds on there. It's probably the most haunting thing I can think of... that I come back to, anyway. Apparently I'm not the only one. There are people out there who think the album is actually evil. If you dig in, a lot of the titles represent all sorts of horrific tragedies and just a bunch of weird stuff with mathematical symbolism. It's dark.

It really does sound pretty devilish. Easy favorite... like environmental horror in audio form.

Just got this (via Bandcamp). Haven't listened to the whole album yet, but even the first track is quite haunting, as much of Ligeti's music — and the cover photo for sure.

Have to admit that this woman could haunt me without singing a note, but she does, and it is amazing. This musical combination of India and Africa is wonderful:

Mike Patton - Mondo Cane - Il cielo in una stanza (G. Paoli - G. Mogol ) 1960

    Quando sei qui con me
Questa stanza non ha più pareti
    Ma alberi
    Alberi infiniti
Quando sei qui vicino a me
    Questo soffitto viola
    No, non esiste più
Io vedo il cielo sopra noi
    Che restiamo qui
    Abbandonati
Come se non ci fosse più
    Niente, più niente al mondo
    Suona un'armonica
    Mi sembra un organo
Che vibra per te e per me
    Su nell'immensità del cielo
    Per te, per me:
    Nel cielo

    Goldfrapp - Paper Bag

Alison Goldfrapp's closely miked, intimate vocals; Melancholic melody and simple, slowly shifting chord progressions; Will Gregory's lush arrangement. *shiver* Did someone just walk over my grave?

I have chills running up and down my spine during the entirety of this record. Cover-to-cover.

I think Tear in Your Hand qualifies

But I know the very next song on the album, Me and a Gun certainly does:

Little Earthquakes is a great album.

I like the Phoebe Bridgers cover of "You Missed My Heart." It certainly qualifies as haunting to me.

The original by Mark Kozelek (of Red House Painters / Sun Kil Moon) is really spooky as well, though there's something about Phoebe's voice that makes it even more poignant.

When I read haunting, I immediately thought of this tune

There's nothing more haunting than unrequited love, even when it's platonic. Here's something wistful for you:

Jumping genre's while comparing amps, ran across Classical Barbra, which I haven't listened to in a long long time.

Also I'd describe pretty much the whole album () by Sigur Rós as a brain massage.
