The headphone is remarkable. Some early reviews remark on a haze in the midrange. Based on my experience (HD650, Clear, AKG 7xx, HD 58xx), there is none. This speaks well for the unknown output ohms on the Loxjie. My drivers measure 15 ohm and 17 ohm. My midrange is wide open, I hear spatial cues from concert venues, etc. that were not there before and the amp removes all the grain from the sound or maybe just provides more oomph, can't say,.I will have to try them balanced where the Lox excels.

Very interesting (both the amp & the headphone). I've read quite a bit about the Verum...am on a comment board where the inventor/mfr of it interacts w/everyone in detail. He's made it clear this planar is quite efficient & low impedance. If the P20 really was a high impedance design, the Verum would probably sound bloated from lower mids on down (typical sound of low impedance HP on an OTL, for example).

I'm hoping to get my hands/ears on the Verum at CanJam this weekend.

While looks aren't everything in headphone design (sound comes first), IMO the design is very attractive...a late 19th century aesthetic I just have to see in person to take the measure of...

Apparently planars do not have a frequency response reaction to high impedance output amps. The amp may struggle though and this can clip the speakers and maybe hurt the amp. Since this is a hybrid, it may have low z. I don't detect any issues from the Loxjie/Verum though.

Very interesting! And a most interesting headphone IMHO. What is its impedance?

Do you detect any difference in frequency response on the P20 vs trad low output imedance SS amps?

I was running the late 1940's JW WE 2C51/396a with the P20 earlier too, it does make a difference, but granted the tubes costed more than the unit. currently sporting russian 6n3p-DR with gold grid + gold pins and they have good synergy with P20.

This "matched pair" from ebay cost $31.50.

No idea whether they're fake or not. Still, it's not big $$; the seller has good feedback (that could be fake, too) & has been on ebay since 2006.

It's a risk, but not a major one. WTF...I really want to play around w/this amp & am having fun.

It's also distracting me from jonesing for a Woo WA22, which is the only balanced tube amp by a well-known amp mfr that I can find that would actually sorta/kinda fit on my crowded desktop.

Probably because they are capable of so much more than being used in a bargain basement chi-fi amp. The p20 might sound decent, but the tubes deserve better; especially when they cost well Anne the price of the amp.

Those are GE. Not WE396. Have at it.

I bought a bunch of WE396 when they were affordable. Will only release to SBAF members for worthy gear. Not $99 hybrid amps with opamp outputs.

Using an WE396A on a cheap amp is like mixing a $150+ bottle of bourbon with Cointreau to make an Old-Fashioned. Sure the mixed drink might taste better with the rare stuff, but what a waste. What a waste.

Imagine being in a fine drinking establishment watching noobs buy the best hand-picked spirits for use in mixers. I shake my head. So sad. What a waste. This is why my local spirits bar will never let noobs know about the good stuff which is secretly reserved for the knowledgeable. Oh, you want a scotch, here's a Macallan 12, it's one of the best.

The Bendix 6385 is the other special 2C51. They are pretty much unobtainable today. Quite a few were used up in unworthy tube DACs thanks to HF. The WE is warmer sounding. The Bendix more neutral.

Now, now. The Loxjie is not a cheap amp. It is an inexpensive amp.. The we296a in the Loxjie is more like a good Macallan with a bit of inexpensive bottled water ice cubes. Purists say sacrilege but it's still a fine drink.

I never could understand why anyone would ruin good whiskey by putting ice in it.

Apparently ice is bad, but a few drops of water good, as it enhanced the flavour and reduced the burn.

When we did the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky a couple years ago, every tour guide said basically the same thing. Doing my own experimenting later led me to largely the same conclusion.

Super snobs only add water from the source used by the distillery to make the spirits.
