Does anyone in here listen to Native American music, or any form of indigenous music from where you live? I don't particular listen to this genre anymore since I primarily listen to EDM, weeb music, slow jazz, and lo-fi hip-hop nowadays, but today I thought to myself, "How would the ZMF VC sound like to some of the older genres I used to listen to?".

When I was a kid and through my early teen years, my dad would sometimes venture out to the CD stores and buys a couple albums related to Native American, new age, classical, or whatever albums he thought (based on the cover artwork) would help him relax after a long day of work. I didn't know what kind of music it was when he first played the album through his speakers, but the four-on-the-floor beat on some of the tracks definitely got me addicted.

Once I was able to afford a portable MP3/CD player (Aiwa brand), I remember I would listen to the albums whenever I was trying to sleep, to or from school, or background music as I was playing Age of Empires game. I definitely enjoyed listening to the tracks with my eyes closed, since the epic emotions of the music took me through some kind of journey, and I also enjoyed making up some fkind of antasy world in my head while the music is playing (same for Trance music).

The particular album I'm listening through my VCs now is this:

I think among all my group of friends, I feel like I'm like the only one that would enjoy this kind of genre. I'm definitely going to loan my VC to my dad soon and have him listen to his older music collection once again.

I thought it was strange that the artist name was "Cusco" (Peruvian), but the music native N. American, so I googled. This looks to be cultural appropriation. Maybe look for some music made by the actual indigenous peoples ...?

I'm a follower of Blues and there's a blues band called Indigenous. The band is Native American but the music isn't :)

This will sound overly stereotypical or whatever and cheesy, but I very quickly wanted to lay down, shut my eyes when the song started and my brain sort of took me on a mini-journey or maybe a semi-lucid dream through abstract worlds/concepts w/o actually falling asleep. May have actually fell asleep after if a truck didn't drive by outside at the end of the song.

On a more serious note, Native American flute music has always been captivating to me mentally - sort of "resonates" to me but is unfortunately often overlooked by me when listening to or selecting music. Glad I saw this thread.

Damn I don’t know any artists but I’ve participated in Lakota ceremonies my whole life and so have heard a lot of Native American music live and unamplified. So much that I don’t have a reason to look for it on CD. From one person to a group of singers. The real traditional stuff is just a steady drumbeat and singing. Some of the vocals are words and some are just sounds. It’s beautiful enchanting and highly spiritual music. The good singers tap into something that feels buried in me. And it all feels very connected to the earth.

I agree it was disappointing when I loaded up the album and started hearing what was definitely not native American music.

Still, aren't people allowed to be inspired by whatever they like? I mean, it's obvious that it's not trying to present itself as authentic indigenous music, just influenced by it.

If you care so much about protecting and preserving indigenous culture, maybe you could share some of the authentic native music you know of? Just telling someone they're bad for liking the music they like, but not offering alternatives doesn't help anybody. Doesn't help op learn of authentic music, doesn't help build community, and may discourage people from reaching out to learn more about a very beautiful and varied culture.

I know people who could provide a very authentic list of Native American music I’ll ask them.
