Glad to see this; was about to make one of these threads myself.
There's been so much amazing music this year, it's [almost] absurd!

Here are the highlights for me over the last couple of months:

    Low - Ones and Sixes
File under: indie rock slowcore crooning

Julia Holter - Have You In My Wilderness
File under: lushly orchestrated pop rock

    Kurt Vile - B'lieve I'm Goin Down
    File under: guy-and-a-guitar perfection

    Widowspeak - All Yours
File under: see above, only with a girl too

    Beach House - Depression Cherry
File under: moody dream pop ++

    Tame Impala - Currents
File under: retro chic alt rock opus

Natural Snow Buildings - Terror's Horns
File under: headscape folk drone suites

    Dungen - Allas Sak
    File under: psychedelic IKEA rock

    Circle - Pharaoh Overlord
File under: Finnish Krautrock-infused jazz-metal for a new age

    Pharaoh Overlord - Circle
File under: Finnish easy listening motorik synth boogie

Creeping Pink - Caped In At Mirror Woods
File under: warbled lo-fi indie rock splattering

    Wand - 1000 Days
File under: spacey psyche meltdown rock opera

    Health - Death Magic
File under: abrasive electronic tinged hypnotist rock

    Sleaford Mods - Key Markets
File under: pissed off, stream-of-consciousness, working class punk rock ditties

    US Girls - Half Free
File under: lo-fi bedroom pop nuggets

    Mick Jenkens - Wave [ s ]
File under: slick, sun dappled hip hop vacation

    Jay Rock - 90059
File under: intense, kicking names and taking ass hip hop

The Weekend - Beauty Behind the Madness
File under: soulful Jackson-esque crooning about dumb topics set to moody, hypnotic dreamscapes aka my addictive guilty pleasure

King Midas Sound + Fennesz - Edition 1
File under: ambient glitch-tronica dub ballads

    Pole - Wald
File under: electronic skeletons with bits of sentient meat

    Nosaj Thing - Fated
File under: smooth, blissed-out, murmuring electronica

    Koss - Silence
File under: gorgeous ambient piano laden soundscapes

    Heathered Pearls - Body Complex
File under: minimal 'pop ambient' electronica for rain days or neon-lit streets

    Max Richter - Sleep
File under: Eight hours of ambience. It's supposed to help you sleep.

    Nai Harvest - Hairball
File under: straight-forward, clean indie rock goodness

    MGLA - Exercises In Futility
File under: roaring, angry, hate-everything black metal

    Deafheaven - New Bermuda
File under: shoegaze infused black metal aka poser metal but who cares lmao

    Krallice - Yggdrasil Huur
File under: twisty, blackened tech metal wankery. More poser metal lol.

    Ghost BC - Meliora
File under: Yup, more poser metal. But it's so pop-y and 70s throw-backy... it's just great.

Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats - The Night Creeper
File under: Speaking of the 70s! Proto-metal slash heavy rock goodness.

Ahab - The Boats of the Glen Carrig
File under: crushing nautical themed doom metal

Destruction Unit - Negative Feedback Resistor
File under: noise rock gas leak with threats of match-lighting

    Shit and Shine - 54 Synth-Brass, 38 Metal Guitar, 65 Cathedral
File under: f**k if I know... blown out electronic jazz fed thru 100 FX pedals and left out in the sun for too long?

I'll post some Youtube samplings if anyone is interested.

Re Battles: I'm a fan of theirs, and for me the new album is something of a throwback to Mirrored and prior. Not a bad thing by any means, though admittedly I was a bit underwhelmed coming from Gloss Drop. It's just not a particularly adventurous album by their standards. What it IS however is a solid and enjoyable album with some great tracks like "The Yabba" and "Summer Simmer." IMHO, YMMV, etc. etc.

    :]

Hey MF, good to see ya.

Not sure I can articulate why, but the new Kurt Vile album didn't do it for me the way the last one did.

The new Los Lobos record is pretty wonderful.

The other thing I have been listening to a lot lately is the new John Scofield album, "Past Present." It's a return to his great early-90s Blue Note sessions with Joe Lovano, albeit with a different rhythm section (Larry Grenadier and Bill Stewart). Very much mainstream, straight-ahead stuff, but very well executed.

Will be checking out the new Craig Finn album. His solo work tends to be "smaller" and more intimate than the Hold Steady, and I liked his last one.

I agree. There's a lot of filler on this album. I mainly listened to ''The Yabba.'' It will never be one of those 'great albums' . I will definitely check out their older stuff. And thanks for the expansive list. Already picking up good stuff.

Looking forward to the Bloc Party release Hymns sometime next year.

This one will be on it... The Love Within. Synthesizers? Nope, that's guitars... cool sound!:

Oneohtrix Point Never - Garden Of Delete (G.O.D.)

    ----------
Psych rock on the lighter side of the spectrum with some serious groove.

    Joanna Newsom - Divers

    ----------
Pastoral outsider---but not too far outside---folksy indie rock sung by a honking angel.

Majical Cloudz - Are You Alone?

    ----------
Low key, simple... yet mesmerizing. Gorgeous stuff.

Neon Indian - VEGA Intl. Night School
    https://youtu.be/Hw6LDVPst_0

Funk fusion that's the soundtrack to seedy porn filled back rooms in VHS rental hole-in-the-walls.

    Other notable mentions:
    ---
Beach House - Thank Your Lucky Stars
    Mac Miller - GO:OD AM
    Kowloon Walled City - Grievances

As for stuff I'm looking forward to in the coming months, the new Baroness (Purple) and the new Sunn O))) (Kannon) immediately come to mind. Apparently a new M83 album is coming in 2016. Also the next Death Grips joint, Bottomless Pit, is due out... heaven knows when.

Shocked no one mentioned this but the new Adele album is scheduled to hit 11/20. First song off the album is "Hello"

That song really grows on you. One of my favorites for 2015.

    Dilly Dally - Sore

    ----------
Early 90s grunge worshippers have concocted this fantastic little album, like a pure concentrated shot of espresso (only used as a suppository). Dirty. The vocal performances in particular really stick in my mind like dark mucky residue. Yum.

    Fuzz - II

    ----------
The return of FUZZ! The last album these guys exhaled from their gnarled lungs was one of my favorites of 2013, a distorted---yes, fuzzed out----romp through garage dwelling psychedelia. This new album is even fuzzier. Wooooo.

Also this is a big one...

    COIL - Backwards

    ----------
I'm a huge Coil fan, so I'm pretty hyped over this: Backwards is seeing a proper release for the first time in twenty-some-odd years. Granted, there was a heavily remixed version released in 2008-ish---and a lot of these tracks would appear later on The Ape of Naples---but this is closer to a "lost album" that has an actual place within the band's older discography. Either way, listening to these tracks in any form is a real pleasure.

From last month - More of the same from CHVRCHES with "Every Open Eye" - and that's a good thing. At least for me it is.

9 Horses, "Perfectest Herald." Stumbled across this on the Sunnyside Records site. FLAC and ALAC downloads available from Bandcamp.

A mandolin/violin/bass trio, all players with both jazz and classical experience. Think Punch Brothers/mid-80s Mark O'Connor ("Stone from Which the Arch Was Mde"), and you're in the ballpark, but there's more going on here than just New Acoustic Music. Very much worth checking out.

f'ing amazing album. No loudness nasties. Florence Welch is on equal heights with 80-ties Kate Bush. I am in a state of bliss.

Update: I am lost for words; the album went the extra mile for almost Prog goodness.
