I'm sad this sort of pricing has now become the norm. However, I also feel guilty for allowing it to occur.

Well once a $6K dynamic came out you knew someone was going to release a $6K planar to keep the peens even.

 

Look, I'll be happy for Hifiman if this is good. I enjoy some planars immensely, however at what point does this all just become not worth it? $6000 for a headphone, seems ridiculous. At some point, wouldn't you need to recognize that headphones are limited by nature? If this stuff keeps up it is going to be much harder for me to give a shit about this hobby.

Also I like how Hifiman thinks they're Focal and Sennheiser with some of the worst customer service in the business. Classic Chinese business, all the ego and none of the care for the customer.

 

Too late! I already move onto speakers!

 

When you hit the $1K point for headphones you really have to bring something spectacular to the table. At $1K or above I should be hearing a headphone that does everything pretty damn well, without having to mod the thing completely out of recognition. It's nonsense it takes $6K to find a headphone that does nothing majorly wrong and most things very well. Shit like that is why some of us are clutching our 650s to our chest for dear life.

On the other hand, when you knock it out of the park $1k seems like a bargain. Anything over $1k and I'm wondering why that money isn't going into improvements to my speaker rig.
