    Hello All,

Just signed up and have been lurking here and there for a while.

I am on a little group of rocks in the Caribbean called St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Have a love for music of many genres from classical to rock to soca to soul.... except country music lol.

As for gear, I have at present an Oppo PM3 with busted pads, a Sony MDR7520 and an Audioquest Nighthawk.
I am running off of a PC with Foobar, USB into a Modi 2 Uber which feeds either a Burson Soloist SL or a recently aquired (thanks to recomendations from this forum) Massdrop Cavalli Tube Hybrid. I joined the drop for the Sennheiser HD58X.

I hope to learn much from this forum, as honestly, Beats are considered high end audiophile cans where I am, and I was fortunate to have brothers who have travelled and have brought back with them there knowledge of audio and gear that opened my eyes to more than just boom and tizz. lol.

    Hi All,

Been lurking around this forum for last couple of weeks. I was mainly going through the DAC threads. It makes me happy to say that I found exactly the kind of information I was looking for. Quality discussions and pretty helpful members.

About me, well, I am an audio enthusiast and relatively new to this High-Fidelity world. I don’t have much experience with many gears. Owned Bose & Onkyo HT systems. Got rid of them and settled with a vintage Denon integrated & Cerwin Vega bookshelves for a while. Then I used NAD D3020 for sometimes. Currently I upgraded to a pair of KEF R500s and a Hegel H90.

    Best wishes to all.

Hi all. Glad to join up. After a few issues with the beatings people got at that "other headphone site" I am glad to be a part of what seems to be a better group. Audio is so personal, and people should have opinions.

I am a vinyl nerd who had a kid. I still love 2 channel but have gotten more into headphones because it is what I can listen to at night. I am apparently a treble weirdo. My main headphones are Beyer Amiron Homes. Recently got a CTH amp which I am really liking so far. I am on a quest for a better DAC than my Modi 2 on the cheap if anyone has any ideas. Also, has anyone heard the Music Hall 15.2 DAC. It is cheap right now but can't find anything about it.

    Hello!
I joined audio back in 2016, when I only brought a teac ha p50, powering a se315. I didn't heavily use my money in audio until this feb 2018. It has been a lovely journey, I now own thx00, akg k7xx, he600, CAL, and some cheap iem. Then upgraded myself to a anedio d2, great unit. Hope this is a website I can learn more about audio. Cheers guys

Hello SBAF, my name's Nathan and I love audio! I'm a newer audiophile and for me it all started with my old Q701's and my old ODAC. Then that converted into many other purchases and sales ofc. Now I'm here with my Kef Q100's and my HD650's.

    Hi All,

I opened the floodgates to frivolous spending when I first began my recreational audiophile career. Since then, I've come a long way and now understand what I am looking for. I hope to contribute to the SBAF community.

I look forward to learning from the dynamic advocates of audio.
Collection consists of many Sennheisers, but my daily runners are my HD650s.

You might want to also spend some time in the general audio thread, as there is additional DAC advice available there:

    Hello All,

I am longtime music lover, short timer in the world of High-Fidelity audio. I am a Mechanical Engineer by trade, so by nature electricity confounds me. Been lurking on this site for months as I have researched gear reviews/impressions. I appreciate the opportunity to absorb the collective wisdom of this community.

    Thanks

Hi, been lurking around since the changstar days, also a member on head-fi since 2011. I admit i fall for some of the hype (FOTM) around there in the early days but overtime i got more experience in gear stuff.

I got a lot of headphones over the years, i started with the PortaPro's, then Shure srh440, akg-k240 mkii, akg k181dj, also some vsonic vsd1 le. I think i'm a bit treble sensitive and all the headphones above was somewhat harsh or too bright to me (except the PortaPro's).

So i was searching for something with a bit less treble and i got the sony mh1c IEM and the zero audio Carbo Tenore. The mh1c was decent but too bassy and still a bit bright on the upper treble. The Tenore's was pretty much what i was looking for, decent bass, good extended treble while not been too bright.

Overtime, i realize i prefer the sound of headphones over IEM's. So i was trying to find something that sound just as natural as my Tenore's. I bought the Beyerdynamic dt150, a headphone people considered super dark, warm, etc. I found out the sound was a bit v-shaped but i liked it quite a bit, much better than my shure srh440 and akg k240, but there's still some odd harshness in the treble.

Then i decided to buy the sennheiser hd518 and was surprised by its tonal balance, everything sounded so natural, but technically it was not as good as my previous cans (a bit muffled). I wanted to try the hd650 but it was too expensive for me so i got a used hd580. I like it a lot, better in almost everyway than the hd518, but i think there's still some slight upper mid harshness in the sound. I'm using the hd580 with cheap gear, a hifimediy u2 async (dac) + smsl sap lll (amp), i think the smsl has bit of a upper mid emphasis going on.

My quest for a better sound still continues and i think i will just get a better amp for my hd580, dt150 and see what happens, because these two headphones are very close to the tonal balance i seek.

    Hello,

Recently signed up. Been a member of the enthusiast headphone community for some years now. Started with a pair of Sony MDR-V6 and now I usually listen to my HE500 or HE6. Contrary to what seems to be the popular opinion, I prefer the HE500 over the HE6 for my tastes. The 6 is probably on it's way out for someone else to enjoy. I've been experimenting with new DACs lately to see if I can tell any differences. I appreciate the measurements that go with the posts in this forum. It's refreshing after spending my forum time in other places. Looking forward to contributing to the discussions as best I can and learning new stuff from the experienced here.

    Hi!
Long time lurking, happy to finally sign in. I see this community as one of biggest resources to all things DAC.
My Name is Juan Pablo Oyarzun, from Chile.
I'm not that into headphones, more a regular hi-fi setup guy... I build horn and regular speakers and class A solid state amplifiers as a side-job. The prime job is being a hero (lol, just an engineer).

I Will really try to contribute to this community. I'm hoping that my basic English doesn't disturb you a lot.

    Hello all,

I started getting into HPs in 2013. Before 2013, I was strictly a 2.1 guy. I've been a HF member under the same name since then. I took a break from the hobby about 3 years ago but hang on to all my gears and still enjoy them often. They are nothing fancy; just stock HD800 (para EQ), modded HE-6, Shure SE846 and some other odd and end HPs/IEMs. HD800 is run off a Woo WA22. HE-6 is off a speaker amp's tabs. I do spin vinyl and have slowly rebuilt my collection.
Recently, as life's slowed and settled down, I wanted to get back into the hobby to see what's new and hot. Naturally, I retrieved my HF password and logged back into my account. I spent a few days digging around and omfg, HF has turned into something else entirely. Also, TOTL HPs prices almost had me choking on my own saliva...

Anyway, I just purchased the Focal Clear and enjoying it very much. I want to upgrade my DAC next. So during my research on Gumby vs. Iggy, I stumbled upon SBAF.

So far, given what HF has turned into, I've enjoyed reading the content and members' opinions on SBAF, especially regarding the subjectively honest price/performance mentality. I am all in for measurements and also some subjectively fun BS.

    Hello Superaudiobestfriends,

I am coming from the expensive HiFi world that used to be called Hi-End in the old days, now also does, which resides with luxury products the past decade. I started that journey in the late 80s as student and lost my appetite lately. Now days my heart resides with portable HiFi. I own many headphones, iems and daps in the so called midrange price range - that world is also crazy.

I met Superaudiobestfriends in the "pirates" site for the first time and since then the information on portable HiFi, your opinions and measurements are also guiding me in this journey.

    Hi everyone!

I'm a fairly new audiophile. Decided to join after I was looking for my first dedicated DAC/amp setup, among the candidates being the Topping D30. Obviously I found the thread about it here saying it sucked, in direct contrast to Amir's opinion on audiosciencereview, and wasn't sure which argument to believe. I was able to buy one for cheap, it arrived, and alas; it sucks. I don't like it. So I'm selling it and am currently researching other options. (I'll admit I also don't like anything Modi that I've heard yet.)

But anyway it made me interested in being a member here as this seems to be, in my estimation, the most persnickety and opinionated community built around audiophilia that I've found yet, since everywhere else basically called the D30 'transparent' (which it maybe is, the way a smudgy window is transparent), or gotten hard over their measurements (which I don't place much value in as a litmus test anymore). This also seems like a more subjectivist-minded community, which I appreciate, as I find my opinion falling on that side of the party line more often than in the objectivist side.

I have listened a fairly wide range of mid-fi (maybe low-fi as far as this site's concerned) headphones I've auditioned in the past, and also to a lot of higher-end equipment at CanJam and various audio shops, so I do have some bearing as to what various sound signatures are and what qualities are appealing to people in general compared to myself personally, and feel I have a firm grasp of the descriptors bandied about in regards to sound quality and fidelity.

I don't imagine I'll provide much in the way of contribution for a while, other than the occasional question, as I continue to amass experience and get a feel for the site. I hope to eventually be able to lend a credible opinion to the conversation in the near future however!

Hi. I'm an ancient audiophile. My first stereo was a reel-to-reel deck with integrated speakers. I'm now listening primarily with headphones to lossless files on various computers. I used to design and build loudspeakers, but when I acquired Acoustat 1+1s electrostatic speakers in the late 90s, I stopped thinking I could build something better than what I had. I prefer planar magnetic or electrostatic headphones, but my purpleheart TH-X00 have a place, too. My MDR-V6 are my oldest gear bought new, 30+ years old. I have some Stax that are older, bought used. Equipment is nice, but the music is more important. My family is very patient with me when I've got cans on.

I'm a consummate lurker. Sometimes I think to post something no one else has said, but usually I abide.

Hello everyone. I am here to hopefully contribute to the forum and learn a few things. I'm an older dragon and therefore have a mix of old and new equipment in my lair to entertain myself. I use both vinyl and digital sources but have been focusing my attention on improving my digital experience lately. I have recently moved to multi-bit DACs (both new and old). I'm an Electrical and Computer Engineer (digital circuit design focus) by training with over 30 years of experience in industry (about 10 in dedicated audio). I currently manage contracts, so I'm a little rusty on the circuit design stuff. I have done time with pro audio as well as home and car audio though the years. Happy to be here.

Hello everyone, I'm a college student who spends a lot of time (maybe too much) listening to music (esp. extreme metal)
My current pair of headphones is the ATH-M40x, but I'm looking to upgrade in the near future.
Since I have little to no experience in the audio world, I will mostly lurk around here, gathering infos and impressions.

Greetings. I've loved headphones and portable audio gear all my life. I grew up with a walkman during my elementary school days and graduated to numerous discmans and Koss Portapros by high school. I spent my late teens and early twenties tinkering with samplers for music production (Akai MPC 2000, Ensoniq ASR-10) and worked briefly as a part time sound man at a now defunct indie/punk venue in Houston. I'm no longer involved with music production but I still love listening to music every day. My most sentimental pair of headphones were the Sony MDR-7506 that lasted over fifteen years. Currently, I'm still interested in budget/value offerings in the audio world. But you never know with this hobby. Where there is an open mind, there also seems to be an open, and often, empty wallet.
