Hi, everybody! Feels good to be a member of SBAF.

I am from Germany and 37y old.

I have been following this site for probably over a year. I appreciate the approach on this site towards describing sound, performance and tonality. Information distilled to whats important. Do not want to be annoned by a wall of text which reads like a love confession where no flaws and critique is mentioned.
Thus i regard this site highly for its (to the point) directness and honesty.

My audio journey began with the purchase of PC-oriented audio hardware like the purchase of a decent soundcard and headset (X-Fi XtremeMusic and Sennheiser PC150). Followed by stepping up my game with DACs and headphones.
Well, PC is still my main source. Still wondering if my Lindemann 192 DAC could become better with Eitr over coax.

Nowadays IEMs have my full attention. Just got the IMR R1 for cheap. Going to rate them vs my FLC8.

I also am one of the ZDT Jr. owners. Paired with Sennheiser HD545 Reference (150 Ohm) and Dekoni Sheepskin pads.
Need to get the GE 5654W tubes and start pad rolling (vs stock velour, and maybe i punch some holes into the dekoni ;)

    Hello to all.

I am writing from the EU, and I have been a reader of SBAF for a long time.

To be honest, I have always been a 2-channel guy until my ex told me she could not bear my music (classical, at very low levels, mind you). So I turned to headphones (certified complaint-rejecting ones) and now I love them.

My gear includes some very well known cans like Stax SR-007, Hifiman HE-6, Hifiman HE-500, Focal Elear, Massdrop-Focal Elex and AKG K-701, and some others not so well considered but that I love, specifically Kingsound HS-02, HS-03 and HS-04.

Oh, by the way, there is a Quad ERA-1 coming home that I got as a birthday gift.

I have a bunch of IEMS, but as I use them outside in noisy environments, I have never considered investing too much in them.

As for DAC/Amps, I own a couple of Kingsound amplifiers for electrostatic cans, and then a La Figaro 339, Audio-GD Compass (with the 3 DAC modules), Audio-GD SA-31SE (for driving the HE-6) and the new DAC R2R 1.

My source is mainly Windows 10 -> foobar (WASAPI).

Unfortunately, where I live there is no chance to try hifi equipment, so all my purchases must be based on specifications and reviews.

I really enjoy the discussions, reviews and measurements on SBAF. I have learned much from them.

    Best

    Hello SBAF,

I am in Southern California and a long time lurker on SBAF, decided to finally sign up with the open registration going on at the moment. I've also been on DIY audio and Head-Fi forums under the same name for several years now. Been into audio equipment and music in general for over 30 years, but only have gotten into higher end stuff over the past 5 or 6 years.

Improvements in my headphone system, and seeing the possibilities there, have triggered a move toward better gear. In addition to my headphone system, I've been rebuilding my main system with an interesting mix of old and new stuff. Running 1980's Nakamichi & Adcom electronics, sourced by Oppo Sonica DAC through KEF 105/4's for my speaker setup, and Sonica>Darkvoice>Focal Elex/Senn HD700's for my headphone setup. Looking at some serious upgrades in the DAC and headphone system in the near future though.

I am into the DIY thing for mods, repairs or refurbishing, which helps wth the bang for the buck side of the hobby. One of the things that started me on this road (both DIY and audio) was modding a Denon DVD/CD/SACD player, that was my original digital source component for my first headphone system. I've since rehabbed an Adcom 585 amp for my main system, and have experimented with mods to my Darkvoice amp in my current headphone setup. Someday, I'll finish my Beta22 headphone amp, which was started over three years ago at this point :).

I listen to almost anything, but my music collection is mainly classical stuff, with choral music being a particular favorite. 80's alternative rock is what I grew up with, but it does not always translate well to a nice audio system. Good reproduction of large choral ensembles has been one of driving factors in pursiung upgrades in my equipment - it seems to be a particularly hard thing to get right, or even close to right, in audio reproduction.

I will probably continue to be a lurker here as much as anything, but hopefully I can bring some value to this site with my contributions in the future, as useful payback for all I have gleaned from this site over the past several years, for which I am grateful.

    Hello all,

Being a reader before, decided to use the opportunity to join SBAF. I'm mostly into two-channel audio, the speaker setup is my primary setup. But being in the pro-audio hobby, I use headphones a lot. I had an HD800 since it came out for critical listening, then I switched to Focal Utopias. Now I'm adding an HD800S, because I figured out that Focals do not translate the way I like it. Currently evaluating various DAC technologies for my two-speaker system, perhaps some results would trickle down to my pro-audio setup. If anything interesting comes out my evaluation, I intend to share it.

As for the music, mostly classical, jazz and EDM. I'm not big fan of rock (I'm surprised myself). I learned by experiment that it is relatively easy to get a good tonal balance in my system, but to add the proper soundstage and imaging require a substantial investment. Coming from the pro audio, I prefer a very detailed sound, so no tubes for me (unless it's TOTL David Berning's stuff). I built 300B 13W monoblocks a while ago, with the typical tube sound. I might use them for my second system (which does not even exist yet).

I have found this forum much more informative compared to the head-fi, and I'm looking forward to more impressions and discussions.

    Mike

    Hello SBAF,

Long time lurker since getting back into the hobby in 2017. Started getting into "headphones" around late high school and college. Then took a hiatus from about ~2012 - 2017. Decided to join now as I have been making more purchases lately and find this forum to work best for me for info on new gear. Also very interested in the meet ups and gear exchanges to try different equipment - have almost always found that 10 minutes with a piece of gear beats 30-60 minutes of reading/speculating (or even more when the reading is paid marketing material...).

Have mostly been trying different headphones and C/IEM since getting back into things and have some/enough of my preferences already. Haven't had opportunity to critically try different as many new amps and dacs yet (IMO most of my knowledge is from before 2012 and things have changed A LOT since then). Also don't have strong preferences of my own or a "house sound" (ex darker vs bright sounding) right now, although this isn't so much not knowing as it is just not having them. I do know what I don't like as much.

Listen to a little bit of most genres but within most genres, it's hard for me to find specific music that I actually like/enjoy listening to. Not huge on listening to music for the technicalities alone (although they are very appreciated and really miss my old UERM for this). Another big reason for joining is also to find new music / artists - something I have always had a hard time with, even after Pandora/Spotify/Tidal/et al.

Lastly, to disclosure and to follow forum rules, I do not work for or make financial earnings off of the audio industry in any way (employee, writer, reviewer, etc.). However, I did briefly in 2011 help Ultimate Ears beta test the UERM and provided some feedback on the product, etc. No public articles were written by me and I only made 2 brief posts at HF where many beta testers provided feedback (after the product was publicly announced).

Expect to mostly lurk for now but hopefully I will be able to contribute to the knowledge pool/base here eventually.

    Hello SBAF,

I originate from Singapore and i have following this site quite awhile after my friend who works in an Audio Store (E1 Personal Audio) recommend me to this site.

I do not consider myself an audiophile rather a music enthusiast, i do own few audio gadgets from low to high end, but ultimately if the music pleases our ears, i am happy with that but that is very subjective when comes to audio and other perspectives to account for.

Moreover, i am blessed that i able to work* with one of my local Audio store (Lend Me Ur Ears) :)

I also would like to express my gratitude that i have finally signed up to this awesome site.

Yet another newb here. Been watching from the outside for several months.

About me? Well, I'm a fifty-something that has enjoyed audio back to the mid-1980s. For many years I had an affinity for the Polk Audio Monitor and especially SDA series of the '80s and early '90s. I owned a pair of the flagship SDA-SRS for a period of time. More recently I've been focused on headphones, including planar and electrostatics. I have a 7.2.2 home theatre setup so have been enjoying what Dolby Atmos brings to the table with respect to movie viewing.

Hi--semi long time lurker here. Found great info when I was looking for a new headphone amp. Settled on Audio GD Master 9 and have been very happy with it. I spend some time on SHTV forum. Not into vinyl anymore but like the forum.
I love to cook, collect watches and my dogs keep me busy. Spent a lot of time on HF several years back and have both HF-1 and HF-2 (my favorite) cans, as well as Headphile AKG K-340, SR-125, DT-250/80.

Hi everyone. Tom Rothermel, The Vinyl Valet, from Tempe, AZ.

I've been loving music as both a listener and musician for at least 50 years. My main career has been as an integrated circuit engineer focusing primarily on wafer level testing for implantable medical devices (Medtronic, 26 years, retired). I also ran an audio shop out of my home from 1997 - 2005 (The Vinyl Valet), specializing in LPs, phono front ends and vacuum tube electronics. Today I enjoy tinkering with both home and pro audio; construction, modification and repair. One current example is the complete restoration of a 1958 Hammond C3 organ which I look forward to playing when complete. I'm about to start the complete Pedersen modification of a Michell Orbe turntable for a friend. In a few weeks when the weather is a little cooler, I'll start construction of a pair Pi Speakers model 4 loudspeakers. Just a few examples. I also play keyboards, bass and electric guitars with an emphasis on classic rock and blues. Most of all I love listening to my ~9000 LP collection - rock, jazz, classical, blues, folk and reggae - on my main, all vacuum tube, vinyl only stereo system.

Hello all, writing from the SF Bay Area, California.

Have been lurking for a while and enjoy the vibe on SBAF. Glad to be here.

My day job is in biotech. I love to BBQ (low and slow), love woodworking but don't have time and space these days, enjoy both vinyl and digital, blues and rock, and am learning how to restore (tinker with) tube amps.

My headphone setup is somewhat entry-mid level, I'm no expert but I am enjoying it quite a bit - Beyerdynamic Amiron Home / AKG 553 MkII / E-Mu Teak (on order) ; Modi 2 Uber ; Magni 3 / Darkvoice 336SE.

Fair enough @Ardacer. I'm a 49 year old male from Americus, GA, now living in Ireland. I am a former Marine, police officer, and firefighter. Currently, I'm in my final year of college at a very prestigious university and, hopefully, will soon realize what I want to be when I grow up. LOL

My current audio inventory is: Shure SRH 1540, Senn. Momentum II, Fischer Amps FA-3E IEM w/ Black Dragon cable, some cheap KZ IEMs for my EDC, Onkyo DP-X1, Sony NWZ-A847 DAP with a NuForce Icon amp, and the Samsung Galaxy S9+. Fingers crossed, I'll be adding a Pro-Ject Pre-Box S2D next week to replace my antiquated iFi iDAC. I listen to tunes via Tidal and/or UAPP. I hate all things Apple and I'm still trying to figure out this MQA shit.

    Gotta catch them all :D
Well, wish you all the best. That was interesting.

I also have a 9+ and hate Apple's nonsese though iphone 4's do have a very decent mobile amplifier so I keep one (used to be my mom's phone many years ago). Apparently xs and xs max's have a really bad charging issue. Another bendgate situation.
