Hello, glad to have the opportunity to join the forum. Have been lurking here lately so I thought why not checking in.

I bought my first more expensive headphones - Grado RS2 - in 2010. It appeared to me that Grado RS1 was some kind of pinnacle at that time.

Activated also in the other forums a couple of years ago and started buying a few dynamic phones and gear. This year I have been moving to estats. Enjoying good music and gear. Interested in all things audio including dacs, amps, cables, measurements and other tech stuff.

Looking forward to joining the discussion and learning from you.

Hello, this is my first post here. I am from India, place with very few if us enthusiasts. I started the headphone journey from Koss Porto pros. Progressed over the years to medley of hps, iems and sources.
For me all the purchases have been without prior demo and sites like these help me in deciding so.. Hope I can share my experiences with you..
    Thanks

    Hey everyone!

Similar story here--been lurking for a while and was happy when registration opened back up. Thanks for having me!

I've mainly been in reading/research mode to make my budget stretch (lost my job and moved across the country Orlando recently, but hope to get back on the horse again soon). Right now my setup is a Bifrost Uber, Lyr 2, HD650, and AKG K7xx. The Lyr 2 was only possible due to IndySpeed, who is amazingly knowledgeable, patient, and all-around super cool guy. 85% of what I know today is thanks to him taking the time to answer my many, many questions as well as offer his experience, perspectives, and advice. He's written a book at this point, just to help out another person. I've seen some really smart folks on SBAF, and IndySpeed is right up with them, helping set a bright example in this community. I can't thank him enough--thanks man!! We need more people like you in the world.

As I learn more I hope to contribute, and especially help newer folks when I'm not the freshman class anymore.

Hello, i've been a PC enthusiast all my life but I have just recently been trying to delve deeper into the audio side of things. I love all music with the exception of rap and metal, and currently am using the HD 598's without an amp. I came to this forum to try and seek out a new pair and headphones and amp to upgrade my current setup and to have a better listening experience.

    Thanks for reading!

Hi guys. I've been lurking here on and off for a little over a year, and fondly recall the T50RP-mod days at Changstar. I've been enjoying discovering new (to me) music in the Jazz Nuts and Classical Snobs threads, and vicariously experiencing the Friends' florid gear impressions and varied measurement presentation styles.

I'm an EE by education and trade (and was taking classes in the Eng. Dept. at CSUN around the time Jason Stoddard went there), and though I was not directly in audio electronics, I did spend 1996-2012 designing ac power accessories for 2-channel audio and home theater (and other) markets at Panamax, along with peripheral involvement with Furman Sound, whom they acquired back in 2006. Nowadays, I'm working with bands significantly higher than audio, though many of the applicable principles are the same.

My audio enthusiast pedigree goes back to the late 70s, and has remained solidly mid-fi, having been weaned in my teens on my dad's Acoustic Research/Vector Research gear, and semi-early Koss headphones (up through the HV/1A and Porta Pro). I've always been an avid music lover, and likely have both feet in the subjective/objective camps, with the intention of peeking behind the curtain at many of the technical mysteries that enable what we perceive as pleasing sonic experiences. Don't worry, though, I'm not as pretentious as that sounds.

Like every new member, long time lurker. Had the opportunity of meeting some 'friends' which helped me build my setup. Gears include KISS mod HD650, Symphones Magnums, Earsonics ES3, DQSM D2, Willsound mk2, Fiio Q5. Hope to learn and enjoy more!

    See that guy coming at Conan, that’s you. See Conan, well that’s one senior member of SBAF. Only there are a couple hundred more Conans standing behind him thinking;
    “Look at this fuckin’ guy...”

Friendly advice: Spend some time reading through the stuff in the link below, and hold off from posting for a while until you get the lay of the land. This may not make sense now, but it will. Lastly, welcome to the clubhouse, please mind the rottweiler(s).

    Hi everyone,

I’m new here and this is my first post. I’m an electronics engineer by education, and an analog circuit designer by profession. I’ve worked on integrated circuit designs of some blocks in the audio signal chain for a couple of years, followed by the design of voltage/current references and clock references (PLLs) for several years. I’m an amateur musician and have dabbled in recording/setting up a home studio at one point. Since my introduction to DIY audio gear a couple of years ago, I have also built some speakers.

As an engineer and designer, I find it unsettling that different pieces of audio equipment which, based on reported measurements, should sound identical, often refuse to do so in practice. I believe that this is possibly because of incomplete or incorrect understanding, measurement, or reporting of relevant performance parameters. Through following and, hopefully and in time, participating in discussions here, I hope to bridge this gap in my understanding.

    Hi Friends,
I am Arun from India. Even though I am a new member here, I have been a lurker going through SBAF comments for reference while making many of my decisions regarding music. I do not consider myself as an audiophile or experienced enough to write much here. Rather I look upon the members of SBAF to guide me and help me with my future decisions. To give you all an idea about me, I follow a rather unconventional route to my music. Over a period of time, I have acquired two things which I consider the most important in the music chain - a pair of good speakers (PSI Audio A14 m active speakers - unconventional, as I said) and a good DAC+pre (Metrum Jade) after going through various different options before. I would love to be in the company of people who love their music. I look forward to picking up tips from you all and knowing about new products and comparisons. Thanking you for having me

    Hi!

I'm a pretty young audio enthusiast with shallow pockets and not too much knowledge. Currently in uni majoring in music composition. Audio, of course, goes hand in hand with music. That's how my addiction started.

I come here hoping to learn and hopefully get some good recommendations for cheap gear.

Anyone else here living in Singapore?

Hi SBAF - I've been lurking the Schiit threads for a couple years and have obtained a fair bit of gear based on the information I've found here. My time/money has mostly been spent on loudspeakers and vinyl over the last year but I've been thinking about an upgrade past the Jotunheim. Thing is it sounds pretty good with the Gumby as is, and I'm not really sure what 'next level' for SS amplification even sounds like so I'm willing to wait until I can audition something properly. No meetups in my area, unfortunately, so that could take awhile i.e. until the next AXPONA.

The Aegir is definitely my next purchase, which I plan to put on my Zu vinyl setup w/ the Saga that I've been using with an Emotiva amp.

    Hey \/

I am Daniel from Calgary, Canada and I have been reading some posts on this website on and off for about a year or so now.

I started off my headphone journey with a pair of HD650s, realized that I didn't have proper amplification and I jumped off the edge headfirst into the rabbit hole that is headphones and gear.

I currently have Mr. Speakers Aeon Flow Closed, and Campfire Comets. I have a Mytek Brooklyn DAC and a Chord Mojo. I also have a little two-channel system with Tannoy DC-100 and a Musical Paradise MP-301. Sometimes I use the MP-301 as a headphone amplifier but as Gary of MP will tell you "It is a integrated amplifier designed to power speakers first!"

I am also slowing getting out of vinyl for now as I am making a lot less money than I used to and I had a bad experience with a new cartridge that left me with a ($750) bitter taste in my mouth so I am mostly in the digital domain with Tidal and a few of my own files.

Right now I am listening to the new Kurt Vile - "Bottle it in" on Tidal.

Hi Daniel, welcome aboard glad to have you. Greetings to all the other newcomers.
I'm not from Singapore but that's really nice that you're majoring in music. Music theory can be exceedingly difficult at the most advanced levels, requiring knowledge of advanced math, history, and literature. What instruments do you play?

    Hi there,

I am Tai, otherwise known as ClieOS. Have been lurking around for quite awhile now, just thought I drop in to say hi. I am really more of a portable guy with way too many IEM and earbuds. Still collecting though, just on a slower pace.

    Cheer.
