    Hi Everyone,

I am a professional based in London.

I don't have any qualities whatsoever to be here bar a pursuit in my hopefully ever-increasing enjoyment of sound - in that pursuit I am completely open-minded and along the way have enjoyed many varying and useful opinions of audio paraphernalia on this site.

I approach this as a complete amateur and at time of writing am not confident of my abilities to even describe sound accurately but I hope to improve and to post here with the sole view of altruistic contribution.

My first post here will be about the Lyr 3, which I like a great deal, but with which I had some slightly unnerving experiences - I hope this doesn't set me up as being a contrary individual.

I own headphones by Audeze and Mr Speakers and amps by Cayin and Schiit and I'm waiting on delivery of a Gilmore Lite MK2.

    I also have upgraditis.

    Cheers

    ACOTJ

My name is Jim. I don't own headphones. My primary reason for being here is to stalk Jason at Schiit and his new Aegir amp, which appears to be a promising solid state amp for 2 channel audio. My primary gear is tube-based including a Joule Electra VZN-80 tube amp, Joule Electra LAP150 preamp, Merlin VSM speakers, Michell Gyro SE turntable. The Joule OTL amp runs hot and sometimes wakes up cranky in the morning. Nelson Pass and his First Watt junk has me hopeful that maybe a SS alternative is workable during the summer months, yet can still make music. Jason and his Aegir amps have me hopeful they make enough power, make music, and are affordable.

As I said, I do not own headphones. I am on a racetrack once/month and am a Chief Driving Instructor for www.chintrackdays.com. One man can navigate only so many addictions...

Hey everyone, I'm David. I've been in the headphone/IEM hobby for a few years now. I am a member of HF and r/headphones but I've found myself lurking here more than those places recently.
I've been using SBAF for (reliable) measurements and listening impressions for at least a year now and I figured I should make an account at some point.

I'm in Cincinnati and work at a local medical device company. I have an associates degree in ElectroMechanical Engineering - Lasers and just started going back to school to get my bachelors.

I don't usually post a lot but I love to read about new products and will sometimes write my own impressions.

My primary home setup is laptop --> Soekris dac1541 --> Liquid Platinum --> Utopia.
I tend to go through tons of gear very quickly and only hold onto things I really like, or there's no point in selling.

    Hi everyone,
We are a group of audiophiles who love measurements. We've been trying to score IEMs based on objective data, and make our own test reports. They are not perfect, but hopefully make sense to some extent.

For now, you can find these reports on https://www.zhihu.com/people/EarphoneBenchmarkLab
(Please let me know if it's not allowed to post links here.)
Our test equipments are BK4195 + RME ADI-2 PRO.

We don't have English version for now, though we are planning to, but hopefully people can still find something useful from our plots.

I personally have been lurking around for a while, and have learned a lot from here.
If we may, we'd love to share our test reports, with our testing methodlogy, and so on here with you guys.
Please let me know if anyone is interested.

    Hello everyone.
I am an audiophile based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Have been an audiophile for years, every since I first enjoyed the experience of a relatively low cost CD-amp-speaker setup:

Phillips CD - NAD 3020 - ProAc Super Tablets.

Have dreamed of setting up a more substantial system system for years, previously limited by space, finances, but now limited only by time.

I have enjoyed the "HeadFi" experience in the past 2 decades, as an alternate, slightly different HiFi experience. First experienced, with equipment from TYLL HERTSENS's old "HeadRoom" desktop headphone equipment, including amp, dac, power supply: BUDA amp, and Ultra desktop DAC. His old equipment is still going strong, in use.

Became interested in the "Computer Audiophile" concept, along the way.

    Current primary listening equipment:

    HD800 headphone
    Weiss DAC 202 dac
Rudistor RP010B quad mono headphone amp
    custom built dedicated audio PC.
Home gigabit ethernet with audio content on large NAS
    DIY audio and power cables.

I remember the statement made by someone decades ago, to the effect that headpone will NEVER give you the same realism as a well executed amp/external speaker setup because it is NOT an audio source in external space. The implication is that the headphone audiophile experience, no matter how intimate or detailed, will never sound truly 3 dimensional or "real".

Well, I'm not sure that's necessarily true anymore, and the few excellent, dramatic commercial binaural recordings made by folks at HDTracks have given me a renewed interest in the pursuit of HiFi via the Headphone route.

For now, I will forgo my previous desire to set up a traditional Amp/External speaker setup in my dedicated theatre room. Out of convenience and time efficiency, I will focus on optimizing my headphone listening setup, and continue to grow my library of limited commercial Binaural HD recordings.

I realized I never introduced myself on this forum when I joined back in 2016, better late than never?

I like tube amps, alternative rock and girls who cut their hair short. I think audio is probably my biggest passion in life and I classify as an audioholic. Since I first got sucked in with a pair of HD598s 6 years ago or so I've spent the majority of my free time researching and learning about audio. My tastes in equipment have gotten increasingly more esoteric as I read more and experienced more. I learned that 15 minutes in the company of another audiophile and their system was more worthwhile than 15 hours reading any number of forum posts or reviews.

I have had behavioral issues in the past which caused me to act like a real twat sometimes. I sometimes cringe reading stuff I posted here in the past and I'd like to apologize for my childish behavior and tendencies to stir shit up. I do really like this forum, there's nothing quite like it elsewhere and that should be appreciated given how niche this hobby is already.

Thanks to those of you who remained friends. I hope to get back to discussing gear soon.

Hey y'all. My name's Russell. I really got into headphones about a year and a half ago. Without a doubt, music is my passion. So it's surprising it took so long to discover the magic of GOOD headphones.

I listen to basically everything, especially Funk, Fusion, Psych Rock, Jazz-Funk and EDM. Don't really care for opera or newer country. As far as formats I enjoy, I really dig hi-res PCM and DSD and vinyl records.

I found SBAF when first getting into this hobby and looking for gear advice and rec's. I have been lurking here for over a year now, learning what I can from the very interesting characters in this community. I find this site invaluable for the honest, no holds barred approach that is severely lacking from HF. It is refreshing in a world that's often filled with hype-mongers and charlatans.

I was reticent to actually sign up and comment. It can be daunting, especially for noobs like me. After observing and taking note of protocol, I figure there is no better way to learn how to swim than diving in head first...

My initial set-up was a Sennheiser HD 558 and a Fiio e17k. Later, I ended up getting an HD6XX and then a Jotunheim.

I have recently stepped up to a new tier for myself, from a HE 400i and Argon Mk2 ~> Jotunheim to a Beyer T1.2 ~> BH Crack or Liquid Platinum, Denon D7200 ~> LP. Also finally think the 6XX has a good match with the BHC.

I currently have an SMSL SU-8 DAC, but am looking to upgrade. Lots of research left to do, but I am sure to find entertaining insight and constructive criticism from SBAF. And for that, I thank you.

    Cheers!

    Hi all,

Just a causal audio listener. In this forum to find out good reviews and opinions on audio gear before I splurge money..

I am pretty new to Hi-Fi audio. I bought a few headphones and basic amps, thats it.
I have an LCD2C and Elear driven by Q5, Burson Fun and LD MK2. I have a Woo Audio WA6 coming in as well which I am super exited about.

I ordered Aeon Flow Closed headphones, was trying to find a good amp pairing for those and my search led me these forums. Figured I might as well signup and say hi!

    Cheers!

    Hi all!
Just joined. I have been lurking here for some weeks now and have learned a huge amount. I am eternally indebted to you! Many thanks. I am dead set on a HD800 purchase since recently auditioning the HD800S and Focal clear from a Phonitor 2 and Benchmark amp respectively, both fed by DSC Rossini. I much preferred the Sennheiser to my welcome surprise. In fact, I enjoyed the holographic immersive rumbling of the Blade runner soundtrack so much, that i havent been able to listen to music since. This depresses me a lot as I used to love music.
I hope to learn more, and enjoy the journey, but right now I need specific buying advice on exactly what amp to get for Yggdrasil > (amp) > HD800.
    Looking forward to this!
    Royaume.

Hi, I'm new. I have been into good headphones for almost half of my life now.

Even though I have been trained in the sciences, I am not immune to placebo/nocebo. Looking at my teeth makes them hurt. Looking at nice heaphones does not make them sound nicer though. That is why I like looking at headphone measurements occasionally.

Hello there, I have made a mistake of posting before introducing myself and for that i am very sorry. To not delay any further, here is my introduction:

My name is Ninoslav and I'm an audio enthusiast as well as a huge fan of mechanical keyboards (have a few of them).

I am on my last year of electrical engineering studies and one my current interests lie in making a single-ended vacuum tube amp (if you know of any good books I'd appreciate it). I'm here to gather experiences and knowledge but also to be of some help if i can.
Another passion of mine is the small start-up I've formed with my brother and friends. Together we are designing and manufacturing home and studio accessories which we would also like to show you, to see if any people find our work attractive.

Hello folks. I am new to this forum. I have heard it mentioned many times over the years, but never in a complimentary way so I just stuck with Head-Fi. I joined them in 2009 when I went digital. I recently joined another start up and so I figured I should try a variety of voices, so here I am. Quite a difference right off the bat: The Loxjie P20 get s a lot of love on many sites with just some folks underwhelmed. On SBAF comments range right up to it's junk, it's garbage and you shouldn't waste one penny on it or one minute listening to it. I got mine yesterday and it sounds pretty good, although it's still not running fully balanced yet.

    My past is B&W P5's (gen 1), ATH-M50X'S, Oppo PM3's, Sennheiser HD6XX's, NightOwl Carbon's, Senn HD598C's, Grado SR325e's, Sony MDR-Z7's, Sony NWZ-A17 and iFi Micro iCan SE.

My current is Meze 99 Classic's, Grado GH2's, HiFiman HE4XX's, Beyerdynamic T5p Gen. 2's, Sony ZX300, Burson FUN-Classic, FiiO A5, LG V30,Topping NX3s, 7th gen iPod Classic, Loxjie P20 and I recently bought Vanatoo Transparent Zero's for my computer.

As far as credentials go, I am the world's leading expert on what Shane D loves and hates. After that any expertise tails off pretty badly.

G’day. I’m joining SBAF so I can ask questions about my Verums when they arrive. Now don’t worry, I’m old enough to have been given a good clip around the ear for asking if we’re there yet so I won’t be saying that again. And I don’t dream about them...
I’m from down under. A small town with no retailers nearby who stock hi end headphone gear. So my gear is mostly stuff I got an opportunity to hear somewhere, thought I like it and then when I had money to spare and a sale came up I grabbed them online. I haven’t had much comparison. Wearing a pair of HD660s through a Burson Soloist fed by AK240 or spin my vinyl on a Pro-Ject turntable.
I’ve come from old floorstanding B&W speakers powered by a 70’s Pioneer solid state amp and old high end Denon CD player + turntable above. The wife got a head injury and doesn’t tolerate loud music in the house anymore so the headphone route it is. And a quite exciting journey.
I don’t have great ears. I really don’t know anything about hifi headphones, amps and sources. I really appreciate quality sounding music. I know what I like. I tend to listen to rock, jazz, acoustic folk and orchestral.
I’m just really glad I found a pair of magnetic planars I can gamble much less than 1K on given I don’t have anywhere local to listen to such headphones prior to buying. I’ve been wanting to try planars but 1k+ gamble on a blind (deaf?) purchase was too much to stomach. Coming back to lurk here cost me $350 but I get to try planars now and start the journey of learning from here too I guess.

Hi, I may be a little obsessed with audio and have lurked for a long time here and other places. I have quite a few headphones I will take some pictures when I get a chance. I have played a bit with parametric EQ based on other people's frequency response graphs and ear. I recently bought a MiniDSP EARS and want to start measuring headphones. I also have a Dayton Audio UMM-6 mic that I was thinking about setting up in some foam to get CSD graphs from headphones with. (MiniDSP EARS are not the best for cumulative spectral decay measurements right?)

I have a set of Magnepan MG-IIIa, I need to wire one of the bass panels (they still sound pretty good, I really like that huge ribbon tweeter). Also a set of Magnepan SMGa speakers that the coils are separating from the diaphragm and rattling. But I will probably be giving them away to a friend to deal with.

Hello fellas, my name is Jack and I am new here..

I only just got into personal audio seriously last October, after first listening to Klipsch x20i, then Andro OG (was wowed by the treble sparkle) and Sony M9 (was really impressed by how noise free and black the background is)..

After that I started trying out different stuff, including Solaris, MH334, Fourte, JH stuff, etc.. and finally settled on the PP8.. I have a used pair in transit as I am writing this.. I guess the reason why I prefer the PP8 is because I am a staging and technical head..

I come from a 2 channel high-end stereo background.. been there since 2007 and have gone through hundreds of stuff.. sold a lot through audiogon back then..

So now, my next quest is to find the ideal DAP for my PP8.. recommendations would be much appreciated :)

    Cheers!
